Over the last year or so we've become very impressed and really excited by young Japanese puncher Daigo Higa (5-0, 5). The 19 year old fighter from the SGS gym has looked like one of the most exciting youngsters in Japan and appears to have proven that he can be moved relatively quickly.
We've known for a while that Higa would be in action on the June 8th Dangan card though it wasn't until earlier today that we found out that Higa's opponent for his 6th bout was going to be Filipino southpaw Cris Alfante (11-4, 4).
The 23 year old Alfante has lost 3 of his last 4 bouts but has mixed with good company, and has suffered losses to Florante Condes, Knockout CP Freshmart and Kongfah CP Freshmart. Whilst both Condes and Knockout stopped the Filipino he did push Kongfah very close in what was one of Kongfah's toughest bouts to date.
On paper this is a great step up for Higa, who has never gone beyond the second round, whilst Alfante has a chance to score a second successive win and get some momentum in his career. We won't pretend it's the most mouth watering contest on the card but it is a really good fight and should tell us a lot about both men.
