Earlier today it was announced that all-action Japanese warrior Daigo Higa (8-0, 8) [比嘉 大吾] would be returning to the ring on March 3rd for his first bout of 2016.
Not only was a date announced for Higa's next bout but so to was an opponent, and we now know that Higa will be defending hit WBC Youth Flyweight title, for the second time, as he takes on once beaten Filipino fighter Romel Oliveros (6-1-1, 1).
As many will be aware of, Higa won the title last year in Thailand where he wore down the then unbeaten Kongfah CP Freshmart in 7 rounds, in what was an incredible bout and a great performance by the Japanese youngster. Since then he has defended his title once, stopping the tough and game Renren Tesorio in 10 rounds. That was the first time Higa had gone beyond 7 rounds and is the closest he has come to hearing the final bell in what has been a really exciting 8 fight career so far.
Oliveros also has 8 fights on his record and is a former WBC Eurasia Pacific Boxing Council Super Flyweight champion, having won that title last August with a 10 round decision win against Edison Berwela. Since that win however Oliveros has lost, suffering a decision defeat in Japan to Takayuki Okumoto [奥本 貴之], in what is Oliveros' only bout outside of the Philippines.
At the moment there are no other details in regards to the card however we are expecting the full announcement of the card in the coming days.
For those who haven't seen Higa in action we have included his break out win over Kongfah below.
