Yesterday we revealed that Japanese Flyweight Daigo Higa (10-0, 10) [比嘉 大吾] would be returning to the ring in November, though unfortunately had no other details in regards to his ring return. Today we were provided with some more specific information on his ring return.
Firstly we now know that Higa will not be getting a world title fight this year, instead his November bout will be a defense of the OPBF title that he won last time out when he stopped Ardin Diale in very impressive fashion. His opponent hasn't been named, but it will be an OPBF ranked foe challenging for the title, which leaves some interesting match ups against the likes of Pablo Carrillo (19-4-1, 11), Masayoshi Hashizume (11-0, 8) [井岡ジム] or Katsunori Nagamine (12-1, 8) [長嶺克則], with Nagamine's name having been linked to Higa's in the past few weeks. Notably though it seems Nagamine has been ruled out, though an opponent has been signed.
As well as knowing the bout will be an OPBF title bout we also now know that it will come on November 5th so an announcement in regards to the opponent will come in the near future, possibly by the end of next week.
Their is some discussion among those in the know that this could be a one-and-out situation for Higa who may look to make just a single defence before moving into world class next year.
