Last year Dominican fighter Vladimir Baez (22-3-2, 20) relocated to Japan to restart his boxing career. His restart really began with fights in Thailand, including a 2016 loss to Teerachai Kratingdaenggym, but today he finally made his Japanese debut and did so in impressive fashion with a 7th round TKO win over the previously unbeaten Daishi Nagata (8-1-1, 4) [永田 大士].
The heavy handed Baez looked sharp from the opening moments and although Nagata had skills to compete he lacked the fire power needed to gain respect from Baez, who took his shots before firing backs with heavier, more hurtful blows.
The shots of Baez, also known in Japan as Destino Japan, took their toll on Nagata's face, leaving him swollen and marked up before Nagata's team threw in the towel in round 7, saving their man mid-way through the round. Although no fighter likes to be saved by the towel it did seem like Nagata was starting to take a bit too much punishment and his team certainly did right by him, saving him here.
