Earlier today IBF Flyweight champion Amnat Ruenroeng (14-0, 5) left Thailand and flew over to Macau ahead of his 3rd title defense, a defense that will see him battling former amateur nemesis Zou Shiming (6-0, 1).
The champion seemed in confident spirits when he left his homeland and was happy to pose for pictures before the flight as well as when he was on the plane. Despite the confidence and calmness the champion will know that he has a really tough task on his hands against Shiming in his boxing home of Macau.
For Amnat there will be little worries about fighting on the road not about facing a former stand out amateur. He did, after all, shock Kazuto Ioka in Japan last year and has also notched up a notable defense against McWilliams Arroyo, albeit in a very close bout.
For Shiming this will be his first world title bout however the stakes are much higher than just the belt. The two men, considered frenemies, will be battling for bragging right after fighting several times in the amateur ranks and their is also the risk that a loss for Shiming here will see the Macau experiment of Bob Arum come to a premature ending. Of course with Shiming holding an edge in their amateur rivalry, and fighting at home, he is favoured but the bout is certainly not a given either way.
