Tomorrow afternoon Japanese fans will get the chance to see Japanese and OPBF Middleweight kingpin Akio Shibata (25-8-1, 11) defending his titles against domestic foe Yasuyuki Akiyama (10-4-1, 8). Today both men took part in the weigh and both passed.
On the scales Shibata was the slightly heavier man at a little under 159½lbs. He looked strong and healthy at the weigh in and had clearly trained hard and had made the weight without needing to drain himself.
Akiyama on the other hand weighed in at at a little under 159¼lbs, he too looked healthy though he didn't appear to be in quite the same shape as the defending champion.
The bout will headline tomorrow's Dangan show at the Korakuen Hall and the winner is expected to face Maebara Koki Tyson in December in what could be an explosive match up given Maebara's style and power. This bout however is expected to be a much more tactical affair.
Akio Shibata looks to continue his reign as unified champion, but needs to get past Yasuyuki Akiyama
