Touted Japanese teenager Keisuke Matsumoto might not be a fighter who is familiar to many but the youngster has been tipped as one the many "ones to watch" from the Japanese amateur scene. For fans who haven't seen or heard of him it may be worth noting that TV Tokyo will be running a short piece on him at 22:54, local time, on Thursday.
Matsumoto is the son of former world title challenger Koji Matsumoto and has been in the Ohashi gym alongside the sensational Naoya Inoue and the hugely popular Akira Yaegashi. According to some in the know the young Matsumoto combines the "genius" of Inoue and the "heart" of Yaegashi with sparring sessions between him and Yaegashi making him look like an exceptional talent.
This isn't the first TV special on Matsumoto who was part of a 24 minute segment last year, which show cased his talents with footage from training sessions with his father and comments from Inoue, who spoke very highly of the youngster.
It's clear, from the footage in that previous TV segment, that Matsumoto is one of the brightest prospects in world boxing. As opposed to racing to go professional however the youngster has been tipped for success at the 2020 Olympics, which is set to be held in his native Japan. Admittedly that's a long way off though from what we've seen and read about him there is real potential for him to be a medal winner in 5 years time.
