The Japanese Super Featherweight scene is one of the best. At the top are two world champions in the form of Takashi Miura and Takashi Uchiayama, behind them are seriously good contenders like Daiki Kaneko, Masayuki Ito and Masao Nakamura, all of whom are very different fighters on the fringes of, or well inside, the world rankings. The next one down the picking order is Japanese national champion Rikki Naito who really made a statement earlier this year when he claimed the Japanese Super Featherweight title with a very impressive win over Hiroyasu Matsuzaki. This was Naito's break out win and his first title win. It may not have made him a star but it certainly showed that he had the potential to go a very, very long way if he continues to improve. This bout showed off Naito's speed, skills and movement and he really impressed us in giving such a mature performance against a much more experienced fighter. It really was a coming of age fight from the youngster who now looks like being a future world champion.
