At the moment there is certainly an interesting grown in the Chinese boxing scene. For many that growth centres around former amateur stand out Zou Shiming though there is a lot more to it than just Shiming in fact there are also numerous fighters competing under the Zovi boxing banner. The standout of the Zovi fighters is youngster Qiu Xiao Jun who, despite lacking the fame of Shiming, has been showing impressive potential so far in his career. Earlier this year Jun scored the most impressive win of his career as he over-came Australia's Jason Cooper and defended his interim WBC Youth World and WBC Asia Council Continental Super Bantamweight titles courtesy of a very well fought decision. At times Jun looked like a serious prospect with nice footwork, hand speed and combinations. At other times however he looked very negative and as if his entire gameplan was based on countering Cooper which gave the impression that the Australian was the one making the fight. Thankfully for the Chinese youngster the bout's relative close scorecards may act as a wake up call for him to change his style slightly. At the moment Jun looks to be the best Chinese fighter making his way on the Chinese mainland, as opposed to Shiming, Rex Tso, Kuok Kun Ng and Ik Yang who all appear to be making their names in Macau. Hopefully Jun can become a genuine contender but from this particular bout that looks to be some way off. He looks promising but still a long way from the complete article.
