Back in 2009 the Japanese based Jorge Linares seemed set to become a star of the lower weights. He had it all. Speed, skills, powers, good looks and an offensive that others could only dream of. It seemed he was set to break out and become a star, in fact he had just signed with Gold Boy Promotions who were set to promote him in the US. What no one expected was that Linares would be caught cold in 2009 as he took on the unbeaten but unknown Juan Carlos Salgado. Salgado was a mystery opponent but a huge under-dog going into this bout. Amazingly Salgado stopped Linares inside a round but we learned very little about the Mexican, instead it was a case of Linares being caught and never really recovering before eventually being stopped. It opened up a view that Linares couldn't take a shot and lacked a chin but it was hard to be sure about considering how short this bout was, and in fact for many it was the 2009 upset of the year.
