November 20th 1992-Metropolitan Gym, Tokyo, Japan Yuji Watanabe (10-0, 10) Vs Genaro Hernandez (26-0, 12) In late 1992 the then WBA Super Featherweight champion Genaro Hernandez travelled to Tokyo to take on hard hitting Japanese challenger Yuji Watanabe [渡辺 雄二], who had a perfect record with all 10 of his professional wins coming inside the distance, and 8 coming in the first 4 rounds! This was a step up for Watanabe, but came after he had stopped Steve Cruz in 2 rounds just 3 months earlier.

May 13th 1996-Tokyo, Japan Yuji Watanabe (17-2, 16) vs Doo Yul Lee (12-5, 7) In September 1995 popular Japanese puncher Yuji Watanabe [渡辺 雄二] won the OPBF Featherweight title. In his second defense, the following May, he took on Korean challenger Doo Yul Lee [도전자]. Note - Boxrec list Lee as being 1-2 (1), though it's well known that they have incomplete records of Korean fighters from the 1980's and 1990's. February 6th 1999-Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan Kengo Nagashima (12-1-1, 8) vs Yuji Watanabe (21-3, 19) In his second defense of the OPBF Super Featherweight title Kengo Nagashima faced off with the hard hitting Yuji Watanabe at the Korakuen Hall. April 10th 2000-Tokyo, Japan Yuji Watanabe (23-4-1, 21) vs Stuart Patterson (12-4-2, 1) In 2000 Japan's heavy handed Yuji Watanabe [渡辺雄二] had two shots at the vacant OPBF Lightweight title. The second of those shots saw him battle against against feather fisted Australian Stuart Patterson in Tokyo. October 2nd 2000-Tokyo, Japan Yuji Watanabe (25-4-1, 23) Vs Seung Ho Yuh (12-0-1, 6) II In October 2000 OPBF Lightweight champion Yuji Watanabe battled against Seung Ho Yuh, in a rematch following a draw the previous January January 10th 2000-Tokyo, Japan Yuji Watanabe (23-4, 21) Vs Seung Ho Yuh (11-0, 5) I In January 2000 former world title challenger Yuji Watanabe battled against Seung Ho Yuh for the vacant OPBF Lightweight title. The two would have a rematch for the very same time less than 9 months later. January 13th 1992-Tokyo, Japan Yuji Watanabe (7-0, 7) vs Toshikazu Suzuki (11-1, 7) Japan's exciting Yuji Watanabe [渡辺雄二] won the Japanese Super Featherweight title in October 1991, when he stopped Takeyuki Akagi in 2 rounds. His first defense came just 3 months later when he took on Toshikazu Suzuki [鈴木敏和]. August 10th 1992-Tokyo, Japan Yuji Watanabe (9-0, 9) Vs Steve Cruz (35-7, 19) Japanese fighter Yuji Watanabe [渡辺雄二] had an incredibly quick rise through through the ranks as he moved towards his first world title fight. Arguably his first really notable bout saw him take on former world champion Steve Cruz. Although Cruz was coming to the end of his career he was still competing at world level and had, just months earlier, gone to Britain to fight in a world title fight against the exciting Paul Hodkinson. March 30th 1997-Kokugikan, Tokyo, Japan Yuji Watanabe (19-2, 17) Vs Wilfredo Vazquez (47-7-2-1, 36) In 1997 Japan's Yuji Watanabe [渡辺雄二] got his second world title fight and took on Puerto Rican banger Wilfredo Vazquez. October 14th 1991-Tokyo, Japan Yuji Watanabe (6-0, 6) Vs Takeyuki Akagi (14-1, 8) In 1991 Japanese fans in Tokyo saw the exciting Yuji Watanabe [渡辺雄二] make his sfirst step up to title level as he took on the then Japanese Super Featherweight champion Takeyuki Akagi [赤城武幸].
