May 19th 2008-Differ Ariake, Tokyo, Japan Yusuke Kobori (22-2-1, 11) v Jose Alfaro (20-3-0-1, 18) In December 2007 Nicaraguan banger Jose Alfaro claimed the WBA Lightweight title with a split decision win over Thailand's Prawet Singwancha. In his first defense Alfaro traveled to Japan and faced Japanese champion Yusuke Kobori. This bout may not be remembered by many but it was certainly an entertaining brawl with bombs being thrown from the off. Whilst this bout is often forgotten it is interesting to look through the records of both men. Alfaro had suffered losses to the then unknown pairing of Cesar Rene Cuenca and Miguel Acosta, both of whom would go on to claim world titles whilst Kobori had scored a win over a then unbeaten Takashi Miura, who also went on to claim a world title. |
