November 2nd 2008-Yongin-Middle School, Yongin, South Korea Yoshinori Nishizawa (29-18-6, 17) vs Jae Chan Kim (4-0, 4)* In 2008 Japanese veteran Yoshinori Nishizawa [西澤ヨシノリ], aged 43 at the time, took on unbeaten 23 year old Korean fighter Jae Chan Kim in a bout for the KBA (Korean Boxing Association) Cruiserweight title. Given this was a 43 year old former Middleweight against a small Heavyweight, who moved down to Crusierweight, you might not be surprised to learn the quality of boxing here is low... but the action is certainly entertaining in it's own unique way. *Note Kim was reportedly 5-0 (5) entering this bout. September 6th 2000-Tokyo, Japan Hisashi Teraji (19-1-3, 11) vs Yoshinori Nishizawa (17-12-4, 9) It's rare to see two big guys in Japan go at it, but in September 2000 Hisashi Teraji, the father of Kenshiro, defended the OPBF Light Heavyweight title against Yoshinori Nishizawa, a man who would twice fight for Super Middleweight world titles. June 24th 1997-Tokyo, Japan Yoshinori Nishizawa (12-9-4, 8) vs Hiroki Tomi (9-1-2, 4) In January 1997 Yoshinori Nishizawa claimed the Japanese Middleweight title. January 19th 2004-Entertainment Centre, Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia Yoshinori Nishizawa (24-13-5, 12) Vs Anthony Mundine (19-1, 14) Japanese fighters fighting in Super Middleweight title bouts are few and far between, though one was Yoshinori Nishizawa [義則西沢] who fought the then WBA Super Middleweight champion Anthony Mundine back in 2004, and then 11 months later went on to face Markus Beyer in another world title fight. December 18th 2004- Oberfrankenhalle, Bayreuth, Bayern, Germany Yoshinori Nishizawa (26-14-5, 14) Vs Markus Beyer (30-2, 12) Asian fighters haven't often been successful at the higher weights, that however hasn't stopped some fighters from "giving it a go" as we saw when Japan's Yoshinori Nishizawa challenged the then WBC Super Middleweight champion Markus Beyer. The bout wasn't one of the greatest for Asian fighters but Nishizawa did manage to give Beyer a scare in round 2 |
