Interestingly Rios was also Gushiken's first challenger, back in 1977. October 9th 1977- Hot Spring Pool, Beppu, Oita, Japan Yoko Gushiken (11-0, 6) vs Montsayarm Haw Mahachai (21-2, 12) In his third defense of the WBA Light Flyweight title Yoko Gushiken [具志堅用高] took on Thai challenger Montsayarm Haw Mahachai, who was a former OPBF and Thai national champion. May 22nd 1977-Makomanai Indoor Arena, Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan Yoko Gushiken (10-0, 6) vs Rigoberto Marcano (16-2, 9) I In his second defense of the WBA Light Flyweight title Japanese great Yoko Gushiken [具志堅 用高] faced off with Rigoberto Marcano, in the first of two bouts between the Japanese great and often forgotten Venezuelan, who battled again in 1979. |
