March 13th 2004-Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Vassiliy Jirov (33-1, 29) vs Joe Mesi (28-0, 25) When we discuss controversial bouts one that needs to be mentioned, a lot more than it is, is the 2004 war between Kazakh puncher Vassiliy Jirov and the rugged Joe Mesi. This is hugely controversially and a bit of a forgotten classic. Well worth a watch for those who like hard hitting brawls with fighters being forced to rely on heart and determination.
