May 9th 2015-State Farm Arena, Hidalgo, Texas, USA Tomoki Kameda (31-0, 19) Vs Jamie McDonnell (25-2-1, 12) The Bantamweight division has been one of the most interesing this year, and one of the division's best bouts was between Japan's Tomoki Kameda and Englishman Jamie McDonnell. For those who missed this one we've included the video below, whilst getting excited about their upcoming rematch. March 9th 2013-Bunka Gym, Yokohama, Kanagawa, Japan Tomoki Kameda (26-0, 17) Vs Nouldy Manakane (24-13-1, 15) In March 2012 Nouldy Manakane challenged the then WBA Bantamweight champion Koki Kameda, although Manakane came up short in that bout he had given Koki an unexpectedly tough test with one judge giving the bout to Koki by just a round. Around 11 months later, and after 2 subsequent losses, Manakane would again see himself against a Kameda as he took on Tomoki Kameda, the youngest of the 3 Kameda brothers. Some bouts are scored in very odd ways and we would suggest the result WBO Bantamweight world title fight between world champion Tomoki Kameda and mandatory challenger Alejandro Hernandez was one such fight with one fighter looking like the clear winner though the judges seemingly had the bout as a very competitive bout scoring it a split decision. For those who haven't yet seen the fight, or simple want another chance to see it, here it is from Mexican TV, and even they had Tomoki winning the bout against their own fighter, though they did have it closer than we did. Although we had the bout clearly to Kameda we will confess that he was given a really hard time late in the bout and that Hernandez did seem like he was coming on strong, especially in round 12. The footage will likely have you wondering why he didn't go for it earlier on and it's a question he has to be asking himself right now given the way he rocked Tomoki late in the bout. It's not often that we get all-Asian fights on US soil and even rarer are they world title fights. In 2014 however we had one such contest as "El Mexicanito" Tomoki Kameda successfully defended his WBO Bantamweight title with an excellent and very impressive victory over former champion Pungluang Sor Singyu. Going in to the bout both men were making their US debuts and for some fans this was the first chance they had had the chance to see any of the Kameda brothers in action. Tomoki went into the bout with the intent of spreading the Kameda name and he did exactly that as he scored one the most eye catching body shot KO's of the year putting the tough Thai down in pure agony. Following this win Kameda inked a deal with American "advisor" Al Haymon and appears to have done what was needed to secure himself a great future stateside. For Pungluang however this loss will likely dump him down the pecking order. (Video courtesy of boxingfan778) |
