October 2nd 2015-Central Westgate Shopping Center, Bangyai Nonthaburi, Thailand Thewa Onesongchaigym (10-2, 5) Vs Cosmas Cheka (14-4-4, 1) In the last few years we've began to see more and more African fighters head to Thailand as opponents. One of the most recent was Cosmas Cheka of Tanzania. Cheka traveled to fight Thewa Onesongchaigym in a bout for a regional title belt and despite being the under-dog Cheka seemed to quickly show that he knew what he was doing in the ring, in fact he looked much better than his record suggested. August 7th 2015- Central Stadium Ratchaburi, Thailand Thewa Onesongchaigym (9-2, 4) vs Saksiam Or Sompote (0-0) Thaialnd's Thewa Onesongchaigym doesn't have the best record but he is regarded as a genuine prospect. He was back in the ring this past Friday as he took on novice opponent Saksiam Or Sompote. (Video courtesy of tko.in.th) June 5th 2015- Pathum Thani, Thailand Thewa Onesongchaigym (7-2, 2) Vs Petchnamngam Jan u bon (?-?) Oneshongchai are one of the most notable stables in Thailand. Recently we saw one of their fighters, Thewa Onesongchaigym, fighting under his alias of Teva Tor Surat, battle against Petchnamngam Jan u bon. (Video courtesy of tko.in.th) April 3rd 2015- Sripathum University, Bangkok, Thailand Thewa Onesongchaigym (5-2, 1) Vs Somkiet Sor Sompotgym (0-0) Whilst Thewa Onesongchaigym will not be mistaken for one of the sports elites prospects he's certainly not an awful fighter and he was recently able to show case his abilities as he took on novice professional Somkiet Sor Sompotgym in what was, really, a showcase for the light punching Thewa. (Video courtesy of tko.in.th) When a fighter goes go Thailand they rarely come away with a win, whether or not they deserve one. We've seen numerous fighters lose bouts they deserved to win when they have gone to Thailand, even more so when they are fighting an unbeaten man. For Xian Wei Qian however the challenge was one he was up to and he not only went over to Thailand with the intention of winning but managed to do so as he over-came Thewa Onesongchaigym and claimed the WBC Asian Boxing Council Featherweight title. The bout may not be remembered as one of the biggest upsets of the year but the reality is what Qian did here is as rare as a hens teeth. It was the first time, in history, that a Chinese fighter had gone to Thailand and claimed a regional title and it's likely to be the last for a very long time. (Video courtesy of ทีเคโอ มวยโลก) |
