In 2013 Japanese fans saw promising youngster Tatsuya Ikemizu win the All Japan Rookie of the Year in the Bantamweight division. It was a great achievement for the 20 year old and showed that he had real promise. In 2014 he continued his development and in July he scored his most impressive victory so far as he over-came the experienced Satoshi Niwa. On paper the bout was a mismatch with the unbeaten, then 10-0, Ikemizu fighting against the then 15-17-3 Niwa however Niwa boasted one of the sports great misleading records and was much better than the numbers suggested with many close losses. In this bout Niwa showed why his record was so misleading as he ran Ikemizu very close in a competitive 8 rounder that will have served the youngster very well whilst also maintaining Niwa's reputation as a tough and competitive fighter. It was, in some ways, perfect for both men. (Video courtesy of Nov K)
