Right now the Ioka gym is flying high even if they do lack a world champion. They have two highly ranked contenders and former world champions in the form of Kazuto Ioka and Ryo Miyazaki, the have OPBF Lightweight champion Masayoshi Nakatani, current Japanese Super Flyweight champion Sho Ishida and and Rookie of the Year finalist Masayoshi Hashizume. The gym really is developing a lot of talent. The next on the Ioka conveyor belt appears to be teenage hopeful Takeru Kamikubo who recently recorded his 7th win in just 9 months as he over-came Masaki Hirai. The bout was a big step up for Osakan prospect who had been facing very weak opponents despite the step up Kamikubo quickly warmed to the task and showed some similar traits to those we've seen in Sho Ishida and Masayoshi Nakatani. The sharp busy jab, the lovely movement, the wonderfully utilised uppercuts and the lovely variety of work. We won't pretend this was a perfect performance from the 18 year old but it was an impressive one for the most part from someone we suspect will go on to win titles in the coming years.
