When we talk about the greatest comebacks of all time we need to mention the amazing comeback of South Korea's Soo Hwan Hong from when he fought Panamanian puncher Hector Carrasquilla in the first ever WBA Super Bantamweight world title fight. The bout, which took place in Carrasquilla's native Panama, was fought on November 26th 1977 and saw not only one of the greatest turnarounds in sporting history but also one of the biggest shocks, especially to the fans in attendance. Going into the contest Carrasquilla was unbeaten KO artist and, according to boxrec, was 11-0 (11) with only 1 bout going beyond 3 rounds. Hong on the other hand was a 27 year old war horse who had compiled a record of 39-4-3 (13) including 2 stoppage losses to Alfonso Zamora and was seen to be on the back end of his career. What we got was the final stand of a great fighter as Hong pulled himself off the canvas several times to eventually over-come Carrasquilla and become the first ever WBA Super Bantamweight champion. Sadly for Hong he'd lose the title 6 months later and retire in 1980 but with this win he had something historic to celebrate. Before you watch this fight we've got to make you aware that the quality isn't the greatest. It's not in HD or anything like that but in our eyes it's amongst the best quality version of the fight available. Sadly we didn't have digital records in 1977 and this has seemingly been salvaged from video tape. Despite the that the fight speaks for it's self.
