(Video courtesy of tko.in.th) April 7th 2015- Mahachai Villa Market, Samut Sakhon, Thailand Sirimongkol Singwancha (83-2, 54) Vs Dan Nazareno Jr (21-12, 17) II Thai veteran Sirimongkol Singwancha has had a memorable, interesting, exciting and unique career which has seen him winning a couple of world titles, scoring more than 80 wins and sitting in a world ranked position at almost 40 years old and several weight classes above his prime weight. Although not an all time great he is a man with a great story to tell and that story seems to continue on. This past Tuesday we again saw Sirimongkol in the ring as he tool on Filipino foe Dan Nazareno Jr in what was their second meeting in less than a year. (Video courtesy of tko.in.th) When we talk about the most exciting Japanese fighters of all time we cannot possibly ignore the legendary Joichiro Tatsuyoshi, the man who inspired the current generation of Japanese fighters and had such huge appeal that American and British fans followed his career. For many the defining moment in Tatsuyoshi's career wasn't his first title win, nor was it his historic bout with compatriot Yasuei Yakushiji, instead it was sensational win over the then unbeaten Sirimongkol Singwancha to reclaim the WBC Bantamweight title. Going in to the bout Tatsuyoshi was seen as a man fighting not just for the title but also his career, a career that had an Indian summer following this contest. The fight might start somewhat slowly but the once the men get into things this became a fantastic battle between two world class fighters and even now, more than a decade on, the drama of the bout is still as brilliant as it was live. |
