The lower weights have a number of very promising young fighters in them. Whilst many, such Kosei Tanaka, Stamp Kiatniwat and Ken Shiro are just beginning their journeys other young fighters are more established such as Japanese 24 year old Ryuji Hara. Earlier this year Hara scored his most significant win of his career as he took a very hard fought win over Filipino fighter Donny Mabao and claimed the OPBF Minimumweight title. The bout, which Hara won by majority decision, saw Mabao completely fail to make weight, coming in at 110lbs for a Minimumweight bout and this advantage certainly helped him make the bout more competitive. Since winning this bout Hara hasn't yet defended his title though has fought in a non title bout. As for Mabao, who is now suspended from fighting in Japan, he will be returning to the ring on August 31st to face on an unbeaten and promising Filipino.

Back in early 2012 Ryuji Hara was a relative unknown, a prospect who had won the Rookie of the Year but proven little. By the end of the year he was the Japanese champion and a man on the verges of a world ranking. At that same time nobody had any idea who Yokthong Pornchaijit was, now we know Yokthong as Yokthong KKP, and previously Yokthong Kokietgym, the man who was stopped by Zou Shiming. For fans who did know a little something about Yokthong before the Shiming fight they won't have been shocked by that stoppage, after all Hara had taken him out in 2 rounds with a crippling body shot that left the Thai on the canvas in pure agony. Since this fight Hara has claimed both the Japanese and OPBF titles at 105lbs and is ranked by all 4 world bodies |
