January 14th 2012-Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan Ryol Li Lee (18-2-1, 9) Vs Shoji Kimura (23-4-2, 9) In 2012 former world champion Ryol Li Lee [李冽理 ] took on former world tile challenger Shoji Kimura [木村章司]. Incidentally Lee's biggest win, a shock victory over Poonsawat Kratingdaenggym, had come against the man who Kimura had come up short against in his previous bout, more than 18 months earlier. June 11th 2012-Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan Ryol Li Lee (18-3-1, 9) Vs Ryo Takenaka (7-1-1, 4) In 2012 former world champion Ryol Lee Li [李 冽理] took on Ryo Takenaka [竹中 良], who has since gone on to become the OPBF Featherweight champion. October 2nd 2010-Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan Poonsawat Kratingdaenggym (41-1, 29) Vs Ryol Li Lee (16-1-1, 8) In April 2009 Thailand's Poonsawat Kratingdaenggym [พูนสวัสดิ์ กระทิงแดงยิม แชมป์] claimed the WBA "interim" Super Bantamweight title. Just 5 months later Poonsawat went to Thailand and did a job on the unfortunate Bernard Dunne to claim the "regular" version of the title. His third defense of that regular title saw the Thai travel to Japan to face Japanese-Korean Ryol Li Lee [李 冽理], who had won the Japanese title just 8 months later, and had defended it once against Hisashi Amagasa. January 31st 2011-Ariake Colosseum, Tokyo, Japan Akifumi Shimoda (22-1-2, 10) vs Ryol Li Lee (17-1-1, 8) In 2010 Japanese-Korean Ryol Li Lee [李 冽理] claimed the WBA Super Bantamweight title with a shock win over Poonsawat Kratingdaenggym. In his first defense Lee took on fellow Japanese fighter Akifumi Shimoda [下田 昭文] in a bout that had numerous knockdowns. From watching Hisashi Amagasa through out his career we've been accustomed to a wild and busy fighter who fights with the intention of stopping opponents through sheer tenacity and work rate. His biggest fight to date however saw him showing off his boxing ability as he took on former foe and former world champion Ryol Li Lee. In their first meeting Lee had over-come Amagasa and retained the Japanese title. This time the stakes were raised with the OPBF belt the reward for the winner. We won't ruin what happens but we will say that this bout was a very interesting one albeit not the most exciting that either man had been involved in. It was as if both men knew what was on the line and they knew that they couldn't afford any major slip ups between them. This isn't a FOTY style fight but it's a majorly significant bout in the career of both men and in the middle and later rounds the pace does heat up to give us a fun contest even if it's not a classic. |
