Riku Kano (7-1-1, 4) Vs Pigmy Kokietgym (58-8-2, 23) The Japanese fight scene right now is packed with exciting young fighters all breaking through the ranks. One of those fighters is Riku Kano, an 18 year old tipped for the top. This past weekend Kano took on former world title challenger Pigmy Kokietgym, a vastly experienced Thai who had twice fought for world titles. December 9th 2014- Bangkok, Thailand Riku Kano (4-1-1, 3) Vs Madit Sada (9-18-1, 3) We all know Japan has a weather of young talent with the likes of Takuma Inoue and Kosei Tanaka being among the very best prospect in the world. Amazingly one talented Japanese youngster has yet to make his Japanese debut but has already had 7 bouts and has shown a lot of promise. That youngster is Riku Kano who, at just 17, was too young to get a Japanese license until very recently. Earlier this week Kano fought in his first title bout taking on Indonesian fighter Madit Sada in a bout for the WBA Asia Minimumweight title, a stepping stone belt towards a WBA world ranking. It was a step up in class for the youngster though it was a step he was expected to make easily considering his team believe he has the potential to become Japan's youngest ever world champion. Interestingly this bout came just weeks after Kano defeated Wittaya Sithsaithong showing just how active the young fighter is. (Video courtesy of ทีเคโอ มวยโลก) At just 17 years old Riku Kano is one of the youngest prospects in world boxing though is already 4-1-1 (3) as a professional. Despite being Japanese the youngster has yet to fight at home and has instead plied his trade in the Philippines and Thailand where he has already shown some genuinely exciting traits. Those traits, including sensational handspeed, were on show recently when he faced Wittaya Sithsaithong. Note-At the time of this bout Kano was just 16! |
