February 13th 1999-Ariake Colosseum, Tokyo, Japan Rick Yoshimura (33-5, 19) vs Kenji Fukunaga (12-6-3, 6) In 1999 the then Japanese Lightweight champion Rick Yoshimura took on Kenji Fukunaga November 16th 1998-Tokyo, Japan Rick Yoshimura (32-5, 19) vs Norio Kimura (11-1, 3) In 1998 the then Japanese Lightweight champion Rick Yoshimura took on Norio Kimura, in what was Yoshimura's 16th defense of the title. Interestingly in the years that followed this bout both men would go on to fight at world level. June 15th 1998-Tokyo, Japan Rick Yoshimura (30-5-17) vs Andrei Bunta (10-3-5, 6) Deep in Rick Yoshimura's reign as the Japanese Lightweight champion, in the 1990's, he took on fellow American born Japanese based fighter Andrei Bunta. June 16th 1997-Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan Rick Yoshimura (26-5, 14) vs Kazu Arisawa (11-0-1, 9) In the 1990's Kazu Arisawa was one of the most popular Japanese domestic level fighters, who would fight for domestic gold a few times. His first title fight saw him going up against the excellent Rick Yoshimura, the then Japanese Lightweight king. February 21st 2000-Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan Rick Yoshimura (36-5-1, 20) vs Hironari Oshima (11-0, 7) In early 2000 Japanese based American Rick Yoshimura [リック吉村] took on the unbeaten Hironari Oshima [大嶋宏成], with Yoshimura looking to make his 21st defense of the Japanese Lightweight title. September 20th 1999-Tokyo, Japan Rick Yoshimura (35-5, 20) Vs Tadashi Yuba (12-1, 7) In 1999 Japanese fighter Tadashi Yuba [湯場忠志] had his first title fight as he took on Japanese based American Rick Yoshimura [リック吉村], AKA Frederick Roberts, who was defending the Japanese Lightweight title for the 19th time! Less than 2 years later Yoshimura would fight for a world title. Yuba on the other hand would become a multi-weight Japanese national champion. |
