November 9th 2012- Marina Bay Sands Hotel, Singapore, Singapore Qiu Xiao Jun (5-1, 1) Vs Hwi Jong Kim (5-7, 1) Nobody will try to pretend that boxing is huge in China however the country certainly has some promising fighters including Qiu Xiao Jun who is possibly the most promising Chinese fighter plying his trade on the Chinese mainland. Jun isn't a big name though has developed into a very good fighter and is now world ranked. For many fans their first chance to see Jun was back in 2012 when he fought South Korean fighter Hwi Jong Kim on an undercard of a show headlined by Chris John's fight with Chonlatarn Piriyapinyo.

Whilst we know very few Chinese fighters have got much international recognition we think we're on the verge of revolution in boxing where Chinese fighters will slowly become more and more influential. One of the fighters we believe will be part of this movement is the promising Qiu Xiao Jun who may not look like a superstar or even look like he has the potential to be a star but he is certainly one of the next generation of Chinese fighters. At the time of writing Jun has suffered 2 losses, both of which were in Japan against Japanese based Filipino Jonathan Baat. For Jun however he has gotten the last laugh by beating Baat in what was a third meeting between the two fighters earlier this year. This win saw Jun defending his WBC Asian Boxing Council Continental Super Bantamweight title and scoring his second win of the year following his victory over Jason Cooper and proving that he's on the way to becoming a notable fighter, even if he will never be a divisional #1. At the moment there is certainly an interesting grown in the Chinese boxing scene. For many that growth centres around former amateur stand out Zou Shiming though there is a lot more to it than just Shiming in fact there are also numerous fighters competing under the Zovi boxing banner. The standout of the Zovi fighters is youngster Qiu Xiao Jun who, despite lacking the fame of Shiming, has been showing impressive potential so far in his career. Earlier this year Jun scored the most impressive win of his career as he over-came Australia's Jason Cooper and defended his interim WBC Youth World and WBC Asia Council Continental Super Bantamweight titles courtesy of a very well fought decision. At times Jun looked like a serious prospect with nice footwork, hand speed and combinations. At other times however he looked very negative and as if his entire gameplan was based on countering Cooper which gave the impression that the Australian was the one making the fight. Thankfully for the Chinese youngster the bout's relative close scorecards may act as a wake up call for him to change his style slightly. At the moment Jun looks to be the best Chinese fighter making his way on the Chinese mainland, as opposed to Shiming, Rex Tso, Kuok Kun Ng and Ik Yang who all appear to be making their names in Macau. Hopefully Jun can become a genuine contender but from this particular bout that looks to be some way off. He looks promising but still a long way from the complete article.
