February 25th 2015- SP Stainless Sport Ground, Bangkok, Thailand Palangpol CP Freshmart (7-1, 4) vs Bimbo Nacionales (12-8-1, 2) Sometimes when we see a fight on paper we expect it'll be over before the scheduled distance. One such bout saw the deceptively heavy handed Palangpol CP Freshmart, who hits much harder than his record indicates, battling against the chinny Bimbo Nacionales who had been stopped 7 times in his 21 fight career, previous to this bout. It seemed less a case of "will Nacionales be stopped?" and more of a case of "when, will Nacionales be stopped?" (Video courtesy of tko.in.th)

January 30th 2015- Chom Thong District Office, Bangkok, Thailand Palangpol CP Freshmart (6-1, 4) Vs Donny Mabao (21-23-1, 4) Thailand's Palangpol CP Freshmart was earmarked as a fast rising prospect from the minute he decided to take boxing seriously. The fact Palangpol, a former Muay Thai great, is expected to fight for titles has been why he has been matched harder than most prospects and in just his 8th professional bout he took on tough Filipino veteran Donny Mabao, who took Ryuji Hara close in a very competitive bout last year. (Video courtesy of tko.in.th) This past April Thailand's talented Palangpol CP Freshmart scored an impressive stoppage victory over Indonesian Heri Amol. Some 7 months later we saw a rematch between the two and this time around Amol managed to see out the distance, though was a clear loser to Palangpol. From what we've been told in the past Palangpol is aiming for a world title bout at some point in 2015. On this performance he still has some way to go though there is plenty there for the 29 year old to build on. Though at the moment we suspect he still a fight or two away from getting a world title bout. (Video courtesy of ทีเคโอ มวยโลก) Many of the top Thai prospects are fighting in the lower weights and coming through by claiming regional titles. One such fight is Light Flyweight hopeful Palangpol CP Freshmart who claimed his first regional title, the WBA Asia title, in just his second professional bout. That contest saw him fighting Indonesian journeyman Jack Amisa and clearly dominating Amisa in a very impressive performance that saw Palangpol showing a lot of promising traits alongside some things he needs to work on. It's clear that his boxing basics need work but be is incredibly strong, very powerful and has serious thud on his shots, even as a Light Flyweight. Since this bout Palangpol has defended his belt twice stopping both Heri Amol and, more recently, Joan Imperial. (Note the video goes "bad" later on due to what we think was satalite issues, we're sorry about those problems) As we've said in the past Thailand's boxing scene is a bit "on the rocky side" of things at the moment. It's definitely showing signs of improving but at the moment there are very few proven world class fighters. Of course there is Amnat Ruenroeng and Srisaket Sor Rungvisai but we certainly think there is clear transition period going on at the moment with a number of emerging fighters who are all showing potential to be fast tracked. One of those fighters is former Muay Thai competitor Palangpol CP Freshmart who has shown some relatively basic skills but has bricks in his hands, looks to be a tough and strong guy and appears to be slowly transitioning from Muay Thai to boxing. The Thai scored his 4th win as a professional boxer when he over-came Filipino Joan Imperial and successfully defended his WBA Asia title. The bout was slow paced for several rounds before the Thai came alive and started to beat up Imperial dropping him in style in round 4. The Filipino managed to survive through the rest of the 4th and through round 5 before being stopped in round 6 after Palangpol's shoots took their toll on the Filipino who looked badly hurt when the bout was finally stopped. (Note we are aware there ARE some technical issues with the video after round 5, these were issues with the feed and not the video. As for he video its courtesy of boxers in Thailand World boxing - Boxing) |
