July 9th 2003-Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan Nobuhiro Ishida (8-4-1, 4) vs Toshihiko Itagaki (13-6, 8) Japanese fighter Nobuhiro Ishida [石田順裕] managed to be one of the few Japanese fighters to really catch the attention of American fans, something he did when he stopped James Kirkland. Here we see one of Ishida's early career bouts as he took on Toshihiko Itagaki [板垣俊彦], who would later claim the Japanese Middleweight title. August 30th 2016-Prefectural Gymnasium, Osaka, Osaka, Japan Nobuhiro Ishida (20-5-2, 7) vs Marco Antonio Avendano (27-6-1, 19) II In 2008 Japan's Nobuhiro Ishida [石田 順裕] took a split decision over Marco Antonio Avendano in a WBA world title eliminator. The following year the two fought in a rematch for the interim WBA Light Middleweight title April 9th 2011-MGM Grand, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Nobuhiro Ishida (22-6-2, 7) Vs James Kirkland (27-0, 24) It's fair to say that Japanese fighters haven't scored many wins that have made the world sit up and take note, one bout that did just that however saw Nobuhiro Ishida [石田 順裕] score a massive upset against the then highly regarded James Kirkland on American soil. Coming in to this bout Kirkland, a wild cannon with serious power, was expected to blitz Ishida but that expectation couldn't have been further from reality in a genuine shock for the international boxing world. November 26th 2011-Monumental Plaza de Toros México, Mexico City, Distrito Federal, Mexico Nobuhiro Ishida (23-6-2, 8) Vs Edson Espinoza (0-1) Japanese fighter Nobuhiro Ishida [石田 順裕] had a memorable 2011 with two blow out wins. The higher profile one of those came in the US, against James Kirkland, whilst the other came in Mexico against the little known Edson Espinoza, several months after the infamous Kirkland bout. April 30th 2015-Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan Kyotaro Fujimoto (11-1, 6) Vs Nobuhiro Ishida (27-10-2, 11) In April 2014 we saw Nobuhiro Ishida shock us all and give Japanese Heavyweight champion Kyotaro Fujimoto a really tough bout in an 8 rounder. Exactly a year later the two men did it again in a 10 round bout for the Japanese Heavyweight title. Here is their second encounter. For those interested the first bout is here. Note-The graphic on the right of the screen hasn't been added, it was on screen through out the broadcast. March 30th 2013- Salle des Étoiles, Monte Carlo, Monaco Gennady Golovkin (25-0, 22) Vs Nobuhiro Ishida (24-8-2, 9) Kazakhstan's Gennady Golovkin is known as one of the sports hardest punchers. As with all hard punchers he has had his share of frightening KO's with possible the best of them coming against Japan's Nobuhiro Ishida back on what was Golovkin's Monaco debut back in 2013. Since then he has made annual trips to the country and will be fighting Martin Murray there later this year in what will be Golovkin's 3rd Monaco bout. December 27th 2014- Sumiyoshi Ward Center, Osaka, Osaka, Japan Nobuhiro Ishida (26-10-2, 10) Vs Kotatsu Takehara (10-10-3, 4) One of the biggest Japanese stories of 2014 was the story that Nobuhiro Ishida, the former WBA interim Light Middleweight champion, was going to move through the weights in an attempt to become the Japanese Heavyweight champion. When we first reported the story it seemed ridiculous though as the year progressed it became obvious that Ishida's intentions were genuine. In his third bout as a Heavyweight Ishida took on former 2-time Japanese title challenger Kotatsu Takehara with the two men trading blows on the grounds that the winner would get a Japanese title fight in 2015. (Video courtesy of Mantagu) Late last year Nobuhiro Ishida announced that he was turning his attention to the Heavyweight division and explained that he wanted to win the Japanese Heavyweight title. At the time it seemed ludicrous to imagine Ishida as a Heavyweight boxer, he had after all made his name as a Light Middleweight and a Middleweight. Surprisingly however he turned out to be a pretty decent fighter at Heavyweight and pushed Japanese champion Kyotaro Fujimoto all the way in an 8 round none title bout on his Heavyweight debut. In his second bout as a Heavyweight Ishida took on Frenchman David Radeff, who like Kyotaro is a former kick boxer. The bout again saw Ishida looking surprisingly good for a Heavyweight, at least early in the bout, though did show that his limitations would keep him from fighting big international names. We won't ruin the bout though we will say that for a 39 year old former Light Middleweight Ishida has become a surprisingly decent Heavyweight and we hope that he will get his rematch with Kyotaro. Rumour is that Kyotaro doesn't want a rematch though it doesn't stop us hoping to see it. (Video courtesy of Nov K) |
