April 20th 2018-Indoor Staduim, Singapore, Singapore Michael Dasmarinas (27-2, 18) vs Karim Guerfi (26-3, 8) Earlier this year Filipino Bantamweight hopeful Michael Dasmarinas took on former European Bantamweight champion Karim Guerfi in a really interesting match up on paper. All too often Filipino fighters seem to come in to their own on the road. We saw it last year with Rey Loreto beat Pornsawan Porpramook and even earlier this year when Ben Mananquil came incredibly close to stopping Kwanpichit OnesongchaiGym. More recently fans got to see 21 year old Michael Dasmarinas show off his skills and emerge from the crowd by out pointing Japan's Hayato Kimura in a very good win in Kimura's native Japan. Going in to the bout Dasmarinas was riding a 13 fight winning streak dating back well over 2 years, he had however not scored a notable victory and had only beaten 1 fighter with a winning record. Despite his history however the Filipino appears to have developed some very complete skills, as he showed off by beating Kimura on the inside and outside in a very impressive performance. Kimura, who was fighting for the 28th time, showed some solid skills himself at times though was often found wanting against the Filipino southpaw who often used his jab to great effect. This win is unlikely to register outside of the east though for hardcore fans it may be enough to stamp Dasmarinas's name in their "watch list" and we will certainly be following him closely given this very good performance.
