December 1st 2007-Tingley Coliseum, Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA Medgoen Singsurat (53-4, 39) Vs Jorge Arce (47-4-1, 36) Thailand's Medgoen Singsurat will always be best known as the man who claimed the WBC Flyweight title from Manny Pacquiao, however he did go on to fight several other notable names over the resat of his career, including Mexican legend Jorge Arce, who he faced in 2007. The most famous Asian fighter on the planet by now, by far, is Filipino sensation Manny Pacquiao. The Pacman however wasn't always as big or as famous as he is now, and in the late 1990's he was actually a Flyweight champion who was unable to command the money he now expects to be paid. Instead of being a star back then he was a young Filipino looking to collect a pay day and try and make a name for himself, though with no one expecting him to establish the legacy he now has. Two of Pacquiao's relatively early bouts came in Thailand. One was his sensational victory over Chatchai Sasakul to claim the WBC Flyweight title whilst the other was his bout with Medgoen Singsurat, a bout you can see in it's entirety below. |
