His short professional career did however come after a distinguished amateur career that was highlighted in 1988 at the Olympic games. Here we see the Korean face East German Andreas Tews in the 1988 Olympic final at Flyweight. 1988-Seoul Kwang Sun Kim (N/A) Vs Timofey Skryabin (N/A) In 1988 Korean Kwang Sun Kim [김광선] won the gold medal at the 1988 Olympics in the Flyweight division. On route to that gold medal he took on Soviet fighter Timofey Skryabin. July 17th 1993-Caesars Palace, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Kwang-Sun Kim (6-1, 4) Vs Michael Carbajal (28-0, 16) In 1988 Korean fighter Kwang Sun Kim [김광선] claimed an Olympic gold medal. He turned professional in 1990 and quickly rose through the ranks. That saw fight in a world title bout in his 6th bout, against Humberto Gonzalez, and his 8th bout, against Michael Carbajal. Sadly for Kim he retired following this bout and was unable to build on his amateur success as a professional.
