August 21st 2015-Sawan Vegas Hotel Suwannakhet, Laos Kompayak Porpramook (52-5, 37) v Jopher Marayan (7-6-2, 3) When we talk about pound-for-pound we typically mean the most talented, or more skilled fighter on a pound-for-pound basis. Kompayak Porpramook however has made a career out of being, pound-for-pound, one of the sports most exciting fighters. He has had a career that deserves to be remembered for his wars with the likes of Adrian Hernandez and Koki Eto. Now aged 33 Kompayak isn't the fighter he used to be but is still in memorable and exciting wars, as was seen when he took on Jopher Marayan in a bout for the WBA Asia Light Flyweight title. June 13th 2015- Thailand Kompayak Porpramook (51-5, 36) Vs Domi Nenokeba (11-24-1, 7) Former world champion Kompayak Porpramook is well known for engaging in some of the most exciting wars of recent times, including his first bout with Adrian Hernandez and his war with Koki Eto. Recently he took a stay busy fight against Indonesian journey man Domi Nenokeba as he continued his climb back towards facing an opponent of note. (Video courtesy of tko.in.th) May 12th 2015-Thailand Kompayak Porpramook (50-5, 35) Vs Unknown (?-?) It's been a while since we've seen Kompayak Porpramook in the ring though he recently made a ring return fighting as Kompayak Banchamek. Wee're unsure who his opponent was here but the former champion was fighting for the first time since he lost to Koki Eto in a 2013 FOTY contender. (Video courtesy of tko.in.th) December 23rd 2011 may have been one of the last days to do Christmas shopping for many people but for boxing fans they get a really amazing present a few days earlier as Thailand's Kompayak Porpramook and Mexico's Adrian Hernandez threw down in what was a thriller and a late contender for the year's fight of the year award, in fact many fans referred to the fight as the FOTY for 2011. For those who haven't seen this one you really should treat yourself to watching one of the best fights of recent years and proof that the little guys, in this case Light Flyweights, provide more action than the bigger men that appear to get much more attention despite delivering much less. We don't ruin the result for those who haven't seen this though we do advise you make yourself 40 minutes of free time and enjoy this war. Controversies in boxing are nothing new, especially where they favour the home fighter or the bigger name man. For many that is exactly what happened when controversy allowed Kompayak Porpramook, the then WBC Light Flyweight champion, to retain his title in his fight with Filipino challenger Jonathan Taconing. This fight, which took place back on May 3rd 2012 could easily have changed the face of boxing had it gone the other way. Had the bout been scored fairly or the fight ending cut judged to have come from a punch and not an accidental foul we may not have seen Naoya Inoue claiming a world title in his 6th fight or instead we might have seen Inoue fight against Taconing in what would have been a special contest. Taconing, a rough, hard hitting slugger and Kompayak, a Thai war horse, both traded bombs through out but the controversy over the ending and the judging will always leave fans split over who should have won the bout. Unfortunately though no rematch was ever fought and instead the Thai would lose his title to Adrian Hernandez in his next fight and the rest, as they say, is history. Interestingly that history has seen both men involved in some thrillers. Notably Kompayak's fight with Koki Eto, which can be watched here whilst Taconing has recently won the OPBF Light Flyweight title, which we are hoping to get a video for one day. (Video courtesy of ไทยเรค ชุมชนคนมวยโลก) One of the very best fights of 2013 took place on August 1st in Thailand where Japanese visitor Koki Eto fought Thai stalwart Kompayak Porpramook in a battle for the interim WBA Flyweight title. If you'd seen either man before this fight you're realise they would be exciting shadow boxing so when they got in the ring together this was a sure fire war. If you've not seen this we won't spoil the result but it really is an amazing fight which shows the lengths two warriors will go to in their attempt to become a "world champion". Both men show real heart and determination, boundless energy and flat out aggression in a fight that we can't help but love despite how sickly savage it is. Amazingly Eto would continue to be in thrillers and in June 2014 he was involved in another barn burner when he fought Ardin Diale. Whilst it wasn't quite as good as this bout it's another that is worth watching if you like savagery in the ring. (Video courtesy of Yoko Gushiken/youtube) |
