That reign began back in 1984 when he over-came Eusebio Espinal. December 21st 1991-Thaepsapin Stadium, Bangkok, Thailand Khaosai Galaxy (46-1, 41) vs Armando Castro (35-11-2, 30) In 1991 fight fans saw Thailand's Khaosai Galaxy [เขาทราย แกแล็คซี่] fight for the final time. October 31st 1989-World Memorial Hall, Kobe, Hyogo, Japan Khaosai Galaxy (39-1, 34) Vs Kenji Matsumura (9-3-1, 5) Not many fighters heard the final bell against Thai destroyer Khaosai Galaxy [เขาทราย แกแล็คซี่] but that's exactly what Kenji Matsumura [松村謙二] did in April 1989. Just 6 months late Galaxy and Masumura faced off in a rematch, that turned into a damaging and hellacious bout that saw both men suffer notable swelling around the face. This bout shows incredible toughness from both men. July 21st 1985-Rajadamnern Stadium, Bangkok, Thailand Khaosai Galaxy (26-1, 23) vs Rafael Orono (32-2-2, 16) Thailand's legendary Khaosai Galaxy [เขาทราย แกแล็คซี่] began his incredible reign as the WBA Super Flyweight champion in November 1984. He made the second defense of his title in July 1985 when he took on Venezuelan fighter Rafael Orono, a former 2-time WBC Super Flyweight champion. December 9th 1990- Provincial Stadium, Petchaboon, Thailand Khaosai Galaxy (43-1, 38) Vs Ernesto Ford (21-1, 14)* Thailand's Khaosai Galaxy is one of the greatest Super Flyweight punchers of all time. Technically he had flaws, he wasn't the quickest, he wasn't the most inventive with his attacks but he had the power that scared opponents, the footwork that allowed him to make the most of that power and the toughness that allowed him to get away with his defensive flaws. One opponent who showed fear of Galaxy's power was Panamanian fighter Ernesto Ford who swiftly showed Galaxy's much vaunted power a lot of respect but still couldn't avoid it. *[reports suggest that Ford may have been 22-1, 14] (Video courtesy of konnahuk) Some fighters are truly legendary fighters, fighters who live on long after they retire from the sport. One such fighter is the great Khaosai Galaxy, one of if not the hardest punching Super Flyweight in history. Galaxy made a lot of defenses of the WBA Super Flyweight title in the late 1980's and early 1990's including this one over Korean challenger, and the then OPBF Super Flyweight champion, Byung Kwan Chung. The bout bout, from 1987, might not be in HD or the best of quality but it's still a pleasure to see Khaosai in action even if this isn't one of his most impressive performances. And with commentary coming in English our American and British fans may learn some new about Galaxy, it's just a shame no English language TV seems to pick up these type of fights any more. (Note-The records shown on screen and on boxrec are both very different. It's hard to be sure which is right and which is wrong though we'd suggest that both could actually be wrong) When we talk about the greatest Thai boxers of all time there is no way anyone can avoid the amazing Khaosai Galaxy. The Super Flyweight king defended his WBA title 19 times and was clearly the king of the division. One of those defenses, the 15th, came against Korean challenger Yong Kang Kim who gave a brave effort though was thoroughly drubbed by bigger, better, stronger and more powerful fighter. Kim was dominated almost from the opening bell and although he showed great bravery he really was no match for the Thai legend who retained his title in dominant fashion.
