(Video is from the Fuji TV boradcast of the fight) December 8th 2016-Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan Katsunori Nagamine (12-1, 8) vs Mako Matsuyama (8-10-2, 3) Typically we're all excited by big name match ups between two notable names, it's understandable. However some times we're excited by a much lower profile bout between two guys known for being in some fun bouts. That was the case earlier this year when Katsunori Nagamine [長嶺 克則] battled Mako Matsuyama [松山 真虎] in an under-card bout at the Korakuen Hall. The bout might not have been a FOTY cantender but it was certainly an enjoyable tussle. February 17th 2016-Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan Katsunori Nagamine (10-1, 6) vs Kenya Yamashita (8-1, 5) On the domestic scene Japanese fan have been spoiled already this year with a number of exciting bouts, possibly the most exciting of which was the Super Flyweight bout between Katsunori Nagamine [長嶺克則] and Kenya Yamashita [山下賢哉]. March 26th 2015- Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan Ken Shiro (2-0, 1) Vs Katsunori Nagamine (10-0, 6) Last year saw the professional debut of Ken Shiro and before he debuted we were told the kid was a sensational talent who had the potential to be fast tracked in a vein similar to Naoya Inoue or Kosei Tanaka. Prior to his debut that seemed like a lot of hype though on his debut he looked sensational in claiming a wide decision win over Heri Amol. In his third bout we saw Ken Shiro put in a really dangerous looking bout as he took on the naturally bigger and more experienced Katsunori Nagamine, a man who had won the 2012 Rookie of the Year at Flyweight. This was one of those match ups the really made us sit up and take note with the winner almost certainly being set for a big bout before the end of the year. (Video courtesy of BMBBOXING) In 2012 Japanese fighter Katsunori Nagamine won the Rookie of the Year award at Flyweight. The following year he took on his first international opponent, South Korean Hyun Je Shin, a former 2-time Korean title challenger. We won't say too much about this bout though we were impressed by Nagamine who showed off a lot of promising traits here even if he wasn't flawless. The one big flaw with the bout seemed to come from the referee who appeared to step in a little bit too earlier though the final exchange was exciting. |
