March 30th 2012-Orient Theatre, East London, Eastern Cape, South Africa Katsunari Takayama (24-4-0-1, 10) Vs Nkosinathi Joyi (21-0-0-1, 15) More than a year after their first bout fight fans had the chance to see Katsunari Takayama [高山 勝成] and Nkosinathi Joyi go at each other again with Takayama continuing to chase the IBF Minimumweight that Joyi held.

January 29th 2011-Carnival City, Brakpan, Gauteng, South Africa Katsunari Takayama (24-4, 10) Vs Nkosinathi Joyi (21-0, 15) In late 2009/early 2010 Katsunari Takayama [高山 勝成] retired. He then had second thoughts and decided that he wanted to become a grandslam champion chasing the IBF Minimumweight title, a title that wasn't recognised by the JBC. To do that he began fighting from the Philippines, signing with ALA gym, and got his first IBF world title fight in January 2011, taking on the unbeaten the unbeaten Nkosinathi Joyi in the first of two meetings between the two men.

Katsunari Takayama (30-8-0-1, 12) vs Riku Kano (10-1-1, 5) Earlier today fans in Kansai had the chance to see a WBO Minimumweight title bout between 18 year old hopeful Riku Kano [加納陸] and multi-time world champion Katsunari Takayama [高山 勝成]. The bout wasn't aired outside of Kansai however thanks to the internet it has now been shared around. December 31st 2014- Bodymaker Colosseum, Osaka, Osaka, Japan Katsunari Takayama (27-7-0-1, 10) Vs Go Odaira (11-3-3, 1) At the end of 2014 Japanese warrior Katsunari Takayama [高山 勝成] took on fellow Japanese fighter Go Odaira [大平 剛], in a bout for the then vacant WBO and IBF Minimumweight titles. -Note, we have another version of this bout which can be seen here, however this is the official TV version and was one of the bouts we had been seeking for a while. September 1st 2010-Carnival City, Brakpan, Gauteng, South Africa Katsunari Takayama (23-4, 9) Vs Tshepo Lefele (17-3, 11) Japan's exciting Katsunari Takayama [高山 勝成] has repeatedly proven his ability on the road with fights in Mexico, Philippines and South Africa. The first of three bouts in South Africa saw him battle Tshepo Lefele in an IBF Minimumweight title eliminator. December 3rd 2005-Central Hall, Osaka, Osaka, Japan Katsunari Takayama (15-2, 7) Vs Rollen Del Castillo (11-2, 5) In August 2005 Katsunari Takayama [高山 勝成] lost the WBC Minimumweight title, in his first bout following that loss he faced Filipino fighter Rollen Del Castillo. August 7th 2004-Prefectural Gymnasium, Osaka, Osaka, Japan Katsunari Takayama (12-1, 6) Vs Elmer Gejon (12-5-1, 5) All action Katsunari Takayama [高山 勝成] has come a long way in his career, but here is one of his earlier bouts as he took on determined Filipino Elmer Gejon way back in 2004. December 31st 2015-EDION Arena Osaka, Osaka, Osaka, Japan Katsunari Takayama (30-7-0-1, 12) Vs Jose Argumedo (15-3-1, 9) To end 2015 we saw a number of bouts, the most exciting of which was an IBF Minimumweight title bout between Japanese stalwart Katsunari Takayama [高山 勝成] and relatively unknown Mexican Jose Argumedo. If you missed that one you really need to watch it now! April 21st 2003-Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan Masato Hatakeyama (9-2-1, 2) Vs Katsunari Takayama (10-0, 5) It's fair to say that we all love Katsunari Takayama, one of the most exciting men in professional boxing. Many fans have followed him through the years, though we suspect very few have seen his first title bout, a challenge for the Japanese Light Flyweight title. This bout sees a then teenage Takayama face off against Masato Hatakeyama in a very good match up. Note-Not all rounds of the fight were available. September 27th 2015-EDION Arena Osaka Osaka, Osaka, Japan Katsunari Takayama (29-7-0-1, 11) Vs Ryuji Hara (19-1, 11) All-Japanese world title fights are relatively rare though Katsunari Takayama seems to have been in a lot recent ones. One of those saw "The Lightning Kid" take on Ryuji Hara in what looked like a fantastic match up on paper. |
