September 13th 1993-Tokyo, Japan Hitoshi Kamiyama (25-2-1, 16) vs Takehito Saijo (13-5-5, 5) III Between 1989 and 1993 Hitoshi Kamiyama [上山仁] and Takehito Saijo [西条岳人] fought 3 times for the Japanese Light Middleweight title. Kamiyama had won the first 2 bouts and was looking to complete a third win against Saijo in 1993, whilst also seeking his 14th defense of the title. For Saijo this was a chance to avenge his previous losses to Kamiyama. What we ended up getting here was a brutal back and forth battle that saw both men being forced to take some real punishment.

December 9th 1991-Tokyo, Japan Hiroyuki Yoshino (20-3-1, 16) vs Hitoshi Kamiyama (20-1-1, 13) III In 1991 Japanese fans saw the third meeting between Hiroyuki Yoshino and Hitoshi Kamiyama, who would both fight for world titles in 1992. In recent years Japanese fighters have struggled to have success on the world scene in weights above Super Featherweight. That however hasn't stopped them from giving it a go as Hitoshi Kamiyama did when traveled to Argentina to fight against Julio Cesar Vazquez for the vacant WBA Light Middleweight title. Kamiyama, who had dominated the domestic scene at the weight, unfortunately found out the difference in class between the Japanese domestic scene and the world level and was stopped inside a round. Although the fight didn't last long it was a painful one for the Japanese fighter who took a pounding in the final minute. |
