A few years ago we saw a small surge in world title bouts being fought at a catchweight. Interestingly in December 1970 we saw a catchweight bout between two world champions, with both men fighting above their championship weight. That bout saw then then WBA Super Featherweight champion Hiroshi Kobayashi take on WBA Featherweight champion Shozo Saijo in a 10 round contest above the Super Featherweight limit. Notable both men would return to their championship weight the following year, and defend their respective titles in early part of the year!
