With Valladares unable to return to the ring in a timely fashion the IBF ordered a bout between Shigeoka and former champion Rene Mark Cuarto, from the Philippines, with the two clashing April 2023.

July 27th 2019-Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan Ginjiro Shigeoka (3-0, 2) vs Clyde Azarcon (15-2-1, 5) After just 10 months and 2 days as a professional Japanese youngster Ginjiro Shigeoka [重岡銀次朗] took part in his first title bout, taking on the older, more experienced and much taller Clyde Azarcon from the Philippines. The men were battling for the WBO Asia Pacific Minimumweight title, one of the two notable regional titles, in what was viewed as a clear step up for the 19 year old Shigeoka. Interestingly in his very next bout the Thai went 4 rounds with former world champion Kompayak Porpramook back in Thailand.
