February 13th 2010-Las Vegas Hilton, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Gerry Penalosa (54-7-2, 36) Vs Eric Morel (41-2, 21) In 2010 boxing fans saw the last high profile bout of Filipino great Gerry Penalosa, one of the most technically perfect fighters of our era. That bout saw the then 38 year old Penalosa take on Eric Morel in a bout for the WBO interim Bantamweight title.

August 5th 1997-Foxwoods Resort, Mashantucket, Connecticut, USA Gerry Penalosa (37-1-1, 25) vs Hipolito Saucedo (13-3-1, 5) Back in 1997 Filipino legend Gerry Penalosa was the WBC Super Flyweight champion, capturing the title in February and defending it twice before the year was over. He also took part in a non-title as he took on Hipolito Saucedo in a stay busy bout. February 20th 1997-Kokugikan, Tokyo, Japan Hiroshi Kawashima (20-2-1, 14) Vs Gerry Penalosa (35-1-1, 24) Japan's Hiroshi Kawashima [川島郭志] ended his career in 1997 with the under-rated fighter going up against Filipino fighter Gerry Penalosa. Coming in to this fight Kawashima was the WBC Super Flyweight champion whilst Penalosa was fighting in his first world title fight. August 11th 2007- Arco Arena, Sacramento, California, USA Gerry Penalosa (51-6-2, 34) Vs Jhonny Gonzalez (34-5, 29) Every boxing fan is aware of Freddie Roach's long association with Filipino icon Manny Pacquiao however Pacquiao isn't the only Filipino great that Roach has worked alongside and another is the great Gerry Penalosa who had Roach in his corner when he challenged WBO Bantamweight champion Jhonny Gonzalez back in 2007. The bout, part of a card headlined by another Philippines Vs Mexico contest, looked like a brilliant bout on paper and proved to be a very good contest in the ring between one of the most technically perfect fighters on the planet and one of the most explosively heavy handed. December 20th- Osaka-Jo Hall, Osaka, Osaka, Japan Masamori Tokuyama (27-2-1, 8) Vs Gerry Penalosa (46-4-2, 31) II In 2001 Japanese-Korean Masamori Tokuyama recorded the 3rd defence of the WBC Super Flyweight title as he narrowly over-came Filipino challenger Gerry Penalosa in a razor thin decision. The two men would fight a rematch just 15 months later and this one was even closer with real controversy. *Note broadcast says Penalosa enters with 29 KO's boxrec says 31. |
