April 26th 2015- Industrial Hall, Gifu, Gifu, Japan Genki Hanai (3-0, 2) Vs Bonis Purba (3-3-1, 3) Unbeaten Japanese prospect Genki Hanai might not be a "super prospect" but the Gifu youngster is still regarded as a future world title challenger. This past weekend we saw Hanai take part in his 4th pro bout as he took on Indonesian visitor Bonis Purba. Incidentally Purba was the third choice opponent for Hanai after Boy Tanto and Demsi Manufoe dropped out of the bout. He was the other man in the ring for the debut of Naoya Inoue, when Inoue stopped him in 4 rounds and announced himself as a prospect to watch. Earlier this year year we saw Omayao battle Kosei Tanaka, and get stopped inside a round by the fast rising Tanaka who looked sensational. Omayao's third bout with a top tied Japanese prospect saw him fighting against Genki Hanai. Hanai doesn't have quiet the same hype or expectation on his shoulders as Inoue or Tanaka though was expected to blast past the Filipino, something that seemed likely with Omayao was down in the opening round and again in round 3. What ended up happening however was Hanai got his first real test as a professional fighter with Omayao having genuine success in the latter rounds of the bout. One of those very, very promising prospects is former amateur standout Genki Hanai, an offensively minded 23 year old in the Light Flyweight division who appears to fully under-stand the need for a good inside game as well as a clever outside game, he's shown great ability to dig to the head and body and although defensively he needs to tighten up he certainly looks like a legitimately sensational prospect with a great future. This video is of Hanai's second professional bout and saw him dominate Thailand's Farung Porsuwangym. It wasn't a punch perfect performance but it was an eye catching and impressive one.
