November 1st 2002-Arco Arena, Sacramento, California, USA Chikashi Inada (10-0, 7) vs Leobardo Roman (5-22-4, 3) A regular comment in regards to Japanese fighters is that they don't do well on the road. Interestingly however Chikashi Inada 6-1 (4) outside of Japan. One of those bouts saw him fight in California against Leobardo Roman in a contest screened by ESPN in the US. Note-Roman is stated to be 6-20-4 by the TV crew. Later this month Filipino fighter Dennis Laurente will battle Tadashi Yuba for the OPBF Light Middleweight title. Laurente will enter that bout attempting to become a 2-weight OPBF champion after having previously held the OPBF Lightweight title. His reign as OPBF champion wasn't one of the most outstanding but it did feature some interesting fights, including two very good ones with Japan's Chikashi Inada. The contest saw both men landing some solid clean shows and although the action wasn't non-stop it was always competitive with neither man getting the clear upper hand for long as the two shared some great back-and-forth action. The competitive nature of the contest lead to a rematch just a few months later, that was equally as competitive, though did go the other way. |
