March 6th 1999-Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan Celes Kobayashi (18-4-2, 10) vs Hideyasu Ishihara (2-0) Over the last few years we've seen top Japanese prospects being raced to title fights. That isn't actually a new thing, and back in 1999 Hideyasu Ishihara [石原英康] was raced to a Japanese title fight, in just his third bout, as he took on the then Japanese Super Flyweight champion Celes Kobayashi [セレス小林], who would later go on to win the WBA Super Flyweight title.

July 3rd 1999-Tokyo, Japan Celes Kobayashi (19-4-2, 11) vs Shin Terao (10-4-1, 1) Filipino icon Manny Pacquiao only fought once in Japan, blowing away Shin Terao. Just 13 months after that loss Terao fought for the final time, battling against future world champion Celes Kobayashi. September 1st 2001-Arena, Yokohama, Kanagawa, Japan Celes Kobayashi (23-4-3, 14) vs Jesus Rojas (35-8-3, 19) In 2001 Celes Kobayashi claimed the WBA Super Flyweight world title. In his first defense of the belt he took on veteran 2-weight former world champion Jesus Rojas. March 9th 2002-Nippon Budokan, Tokyo, Japan Celes Kobayashi (24-4-3, 14) Vs Alexander Munoz (21-0, 21) In 2002 Japan got it's first visit from the hard hitting Alexander Munoz, a man who enjoyed his visits to Japan. This first visit saw him taking on Celes Kobayashi [セレス小林], the then WBA Super Flyweight champion. August 20th 2000-Kokugikan, Tokyo, Japan Malcolm Tunacao (11-0, 7) Vs Celes Kobayashi (22-4-2, 13) At the turn of the we saw the WBC Flyweight title being held by Filipino Malcolm Tunacao who made his first defense of the title against Japan's Celes Kobayashi [セレス小林], a man who would later go on to claim a title at Super Flyweight and currently manages active fighter Ryosuke Iwasa. March 11th 2001-Arena, Yokohama, Kanagawa, Japan Celes Kobayashi (22-4-3, 13) Vs Leo Gamez (33-7-1, 25) In 2001 Japan's Celes Kobayashi [セレス小林] got his second shot at a world title as he took on Venezuelan legend Leo Gamez for the WBA Super Flyweight title. Gamez, a 4 weight world champion, was looking to record the first defense of the title that he had won the previous year. |
