March 24th 2024-Gwanakgu Hall, Seoul Seung Hyub Baek (0-0) vs Ji Un Kim (0-0) This past weekend Korean Welterweight debutants Seung Hyub Baek and Ji Un Kim clashed in a scheduled 4 rounder in Seoul. The bout, like many Korean novice bouts, was relatively low in skill but high in action and entertainment as the two men put it all on the line, looking to kick their professional career off with a win.

March 24th 2024 - Gwanakgu Hall, Seoul Hyung Joo Kim (2-1, 1) vs Dong Woo Kim (3-1-1, 3) This past weekend The Won Promotion held a card in Seoul. One of the bouts on that card was a 4 round Super Middleweight bout, as novices Hyung Joo Kim and Dong Woo Kim faced off. Coming into this Hyung Joo Kim had been out of the ring for over a year, and had strangely fought one time in each of the last 3 years. Dong Woo Kim on the other hand had been out of the ring for 11 months, though had fought twice in both 2022 and 2021. March 24th 2024-Gwanakgu Hall, Seoul Hyung Kyoo Park (1-1) vs Young Ryul Kim (2-1) This past weekend Seoul played host to a number of bouts, at the Gwanakgu Hall. One of those bouts was a 4 rounder between Hyung Kyoo Park and Young Ryul Kim, who clashed at 135lbs. Although not the most highly skilled bout this was really exciting, and action packed, as we saw both men throwing bombs in a thrilling shoot out of a bout. March 16th 2024- Swiss Grand Hotel, Seoul Sung Chul Kang (4-0-1) vs Juanito Paredes (11-11-1, 5) On March 16th Seoul played host to a KBM Lightweight title fight, as unbeaten local hopeful Sung Chul Kang [강성철] took on Filipino veteran Juanito Paredes, for the vacant South Korean title. For Paredes this was his third bout, from his last 4, in South Korea. He has been stopped in those previous two bouts, though both had been at Light Middleweight and for this fight he was fighting at a more suitable weight of 135lbs. As for Kang the 21 year old local was looking to extend his unbeaten run to 6 fights, since making his debut just over a year ago. March 16th 2024-Swiss Grand Hotel, Seoul Min Jang (10-0-2, 2) vs Dong Young Lee (3-6-2, 1) II Back on March 16th Korean fans saw the ring return of unbeaten 23 year old hopeful Min Jang [장민], who returning to the ring for the first time in over 4 years, as he took on Dong Young Lee [꾸준히] in Seoul. Jang had last fought back in January 2020 when he beat Junhui Zhao for the WBA East Super Bantamweight title, and whilst he was the favourite coming in to this bout, this was at Super Featherweight. Notably Lee had fought 5 times since Jang was last in the ring, and had fought at high as Light Welterweight in that time. One other thing to note, is that these two had fought before, back in 2018 when Jang gave Lee his first professional loss, in a 4 rounder. July 21st 2023-Meadowbank Sports Centre, Edinburgh Sultan Zaurbek (14-0, 10) vs John Carter (15-0-1, 7) Back in the summer of 2023 unbeaten Kazakh hopeful Sultan Zaurbek [Заурбек Султан] faced off with unbeaten Spanish fighter John Carter, with the men clashing in Edinburgh. The bout was Zaurbek's second of the year as he looked to continue his run to a potential world title shot at either 130lbs or 135lbs. As for Carter the bout marked his first bout outside of Spain, where he had won the European Union Super Featherweight title in 2020. October 8th 2023-Pocheon Sports Complex, Pocheon Won Koo Lee (1-0) vs Gaetan Neyrot (0-0) Back in October Korean novice Won Koo Lee faced off with debuting Korean based French fighter Gaetan Neyrot in a 4 rounder. The bout, which took place in Pocheon, saw Lee return to the ring less than 2 months after his debut, which had seen him take a decision over Yoo Shin Lee in Cheonan. October 8th 2023-Cheongyang Gymnasium, Cheongyang Jung Gon Kim (1-6) vs Young Ryul Kim (1-0) Back in October 2023 unbeaten Korean novice Young Ryul Kim took on the limited Jung Gon Kim, who had only scored 1 win in his 7 professional bouts, though had never been stopped. The bout, which took place in Cheongyang and was a 4 round Lightweight bout. October 8th 2023-Pocheon Sports Complex, Pocheon Bo Mi Re Shin (15-2-3, 8) vs Pattarawan Thaosuwan (11-3, 5) In October 2023 popular Korean fighter Bo Mi Re Shin [신보미레], who had featured on reality TV show The Physical 100, faced off with Thai teenager Pattarawan Thaosuwan, with the two women clashing in a 10 round bout in Pocheon on a show promoted by the legendary Myung Woo Yuh. March 16th 2024-Swiss Grand Hotel, Seoul Ha Nok Shim (8-2, 3) vs Bhinder Singh (1-1) Just over a week ago Korean fight fans in Seoul saw local fighter Ha Nok Shim [심하녹] take on Indian visitor Bhinder Singh, who was fighting outside of Indian for the first time. Rather interestingly Singh's previous fights had been at Light Welterweight, whilst this bout was taking place at just over the Super Featherweight limit, with Singh coming in more than 6lbs lighter than he had for his previous fight. As for Shim this was his first bout since being stopped by Mongolian hopeful Kharkhuu Enkhamar, in a Featherweight bout in January. |
