December 19th 2014- Polideportivo Gustavo Toro Rodriguez, San Martin, Mendoza, Argentina Yodmongkol Vor Saengthep (34-2, 20) Vs Juan Carlos Reveco (34-1, 18) One of the final world title bouts before Christmas saw the WBA Flyweight and WBA "interim" Flyweight titles being unified as Thailand's Yodmongkol Vor Saengthep battled against Juan Carlos Reveco. The bout saw both men being dropped before the finish and if you've not seen it it's well worth a watch and the winner is now expected to fight Japan's Kazuto Ioka. December 21st 2014- Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan Masayoshi Hashizume (6-0, 4) Vs Shogo Yonenaga (6-1, 3) In the Flyweight division at this years All Japan Rookie of the Year fans had, on paper, a treat as the exciting Masayoshi Hashizume took on Shogo Yonenaga in what looked like to be a thrilling contest. Whilst we'll admit the action was exciting the end was somewhat anti-climatic though it is another bout that is well worth a watch. (Video courtesy Nov K) December 21st 2014- Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan Yuki Beppu (7-0, 7) Vs Hironobu Matsunaga (6-0, 3) This past Sunday saw the end of the 2014 Rookie of the Year competition. One of the best bouts on the show was the Welterweight bout which saw the heavy handed Yuki Beppu battle against Hironobu Matsunaga. On paper it was one of the best contests on the show putting unbeaten fighters against each other whilst in the ring it proved to be genuinely thrilling as both men fought with the belief that their power would win the bout. This is relatively short but very exciting. (Video courtesy of Nov K) April 5th 2013- Kokugikan, Tokyo, Japan Akira Yaegashi (16-3, 9) Vs Toshiyuki Igarashi (17-1-1, 10) It's fair to say 2012 was a big year for a number of Japanese fighters. It saw Toshiyuki Igarashi win the WBC Flyweight title, with a decision win over Sonny Boy Jaro, and it saw Akira Yaegashi come close to unifying Minimumweight titles as he went to war with Kazuto Ioka, though did lose a narrow decision. In 2013 we saw Yaegashi and Igarashi go to war in what was a thriller between two men who had crossed paths several times in the amateur ranks. If you've not seen this one we suggest setting aside an hour and treating yourself to a genuinely brilliant, bloody, violent and exciting battle between two highly skilled warriors. November 3rd 2012- Xebio Arena, Sendai, Miyagi, Japan Toshiyuki Igarashi (16-1-1, 10) Vs Nestor Daniel Narvaes (19-0-2, 9) The Narvaez name is one many fans around the world will be familiar with due to the long success of Omar Andres Narvaez, a 2 weight world champion from Argentina. In 2012 his younger brother, Nestor Daniel Narvaes, also attempted to ascend to the top of the boxing world as he traveled to Japan and battled against WBC and "linear" Flyweight champion Toshiyuki Igarashi. This was Igarashi's first defense of the title after his thrilling yet close win over Sonny Boy Jaro just 4 months earlier. December 19th 2014- Kinpoo Seafood Restaurant, Samut Prakan, Thailand Jirapan Nakornluang (0-0) Vs Toto Lookmuangbangklang (0-0) We've seen some really impressive debuts in the last year or so. On the whole however those debuts have been of touted formed amateur stars however we were pleasantly surprised by the debut of Jirapan Nakornluang who didn't get rave reviews before his debut but looked like one to keep an eye on as he fought Toto Lookmuangbangklang. We'd make a mental note of Jirapan because he really does look talented. Denchai Por Korbkua had made his debut last month, losing to Jaipetch Chaiyongym, whilst Namphol Sithsaithong entered on the back of 3 wins over debtuing foes and this is what happened when they collided. (Video courtesy of ทีเคโอ มวยโลก) December 19th 2014- Kinpoo Seafood Restaurant, Samut Prakan, Thailand Suriyan Sor Rungvisai (37-6-1, 16) vs Tony Arema (3-5-1) In October we saw Suriyan Sor Rungvisai challenge WBC Bantamweight champion Shinsuke Yamanaka. Although he was dropped 3 times in that bout Suriyan managed to keep things relatively competitive and proved that he would be a nightmare for anyone in the division. Despite the effort against Yamanaka it was only 8 weeks until Suriyan was back in the ring as he took on the limited Tony Arema in a bout for the WBC Asian Boxing Council Bantamweight title. (Video courtesy of ทีเคโอ มวยโลก) December 19th 2014- Kinpoo Seafood Restaurant, Samut Prakan, Thailand Srisaket Sor Rungvisai (30-4-1, 27) Vs Jemmy Gobel (18-25-5, 13) One thing about boxing in Thailand is that we know fighters are active, even if it means they take part in some farcical contests. One such farce saw former world champion Srisaket Sor Rungvisai, one of the best fighters in the Super Flyweight division, battle against Indonesian Jemmy Gobel. Thankfully for Srisaket he didn't suffer any damage and it now seems likely he'll be fighting in a world title eliminator in early 2015. (Video courtesy of ทีเคโอ มวยโลก) |
