(Video courtesy of TKO.in.th) September 25th 2015-Provincial Stadium, Nakhon Sawan, Thailand Petch Sor Chitpattana (32-0, 21) Vs Eric Panza (8-4-1, 2) There has been much made of Floyd Mayweather Jr and his 49-0 record. Whilst it's impressive it's also a figure that we're likely to see broken numerous times over the coming years. One man who may well smash the figure sooner rather than later is Petch Sor Chitpattana, a 21 year old who fought for the 33rd time earlier today as he took on the limited Eric Panza. He was in the ring this past weekend and it was it during that fight, with Yuta Saito, that it became very clear that Tanaka is a mile away from being a "world class" fighter. Here however we have one of his early bouts as he took on, and took out, Rex Rapiso, a former OPBF title challenger. Note-We're sorry about the quality of this footage, it appears to have been transferred from an old VHS. May 21st 1993-Nippon Budokan, Tokyo, Japan Katsuya Onizuka (21-0, 17) Vs Jae Shin Lim (12-2, 7) When people talk about exciting Japanese fighters it's hard to forget about the brilliant and amazingly entertaining Katsuya Onizuka, AKA "Spanky K". Onizuka was one of those fighters put on a show every time he stepped in the ring, win or lose. One of Onizuka's toughest and most controversial bouts came against the upset minded Jae Shin Kim. Entering this bout Onizuka was the WBA Super Flyweight champion and regarded as a big betting favourite against his supposedly under-qualified foe. In this bout he took on limited Korean foe Moon Chul Suh in what was, on paper, a real mismatch June 23rd 2013-Kyushu Kyoritsu University, Kitakyushu, Fukuoka, Japan Yoshihiko Matsuo (14-5-5, 2) Vs Jong Min Jun (4-5, 1) The Japan Vs Korea rivalry used to be one of the best in boxing with the best from both countries competing regularly through the 1970's, 80's and 90's. In recent years however it's become a bit of a 1-way rivalry with Korea typically lacking in quality fighters. Despite that they can still notch the odd upset or good performance, one such good performance was put on by Jong Min Jun when he faced Yoshihiko Matsuo back in summer 2013, |
