About 2 weeks ago we reported that Thailand's Chonlatarn Piriyapinyo would be challenging Ukrainian Vasyl Lomachneko for the WBO Featherweight title on the undercard of Manny Pacquiao's bout with Chris Algieri. We know that many haven't seen much of Chonlatarn so here is footage from his "warm up" for Lomachneko. This bout saw Chonlatarn take on the very unknown Wang Yi Ming from China and put on a relatively disappointing performance to take a clear decision win over the inexperienced Chinese fighter. Whilst on paper it was a poor result it is worth noting that Ming has fought as high as 140lbs and was a bloodied up from a fighter who was on cruiser control for much of the bout. It wasn't a great performance but it was a work out for Thai who knows he'll need to be sharper than this to claim the WBO Featherweight title in November. (Note-The video starts in round 4 and features a little 2 complete rounds of the 6 round bout)

The Thai boxing scene is one of the most difficult to follow unless you can read and speak Thai. We have been incredibly fortunate to come across a someone willing to help us who does understand Thai and they have been able to inform about several contests that aren't on boxrec, though probably should be. One of those bouts is this one between the world ranked Kwanpichit Onesongchaigym and the completely unknown, and win-less, Saichon or Ounsuwan. The bout was, as far as we are aware, the 30th bout that Kwanpichit has fought in and his 28th professional win. It was however a mismatch with Saichon falling to 0-19 as a result of this loss. (Note-part of round 1 is missing) If at first you don't succeed try, try again. That seemed to be what was on the mind of Oleydong Sithsamerchai when he took on Indonesian journeyman Falazona Fidal for the third time in little over 18 months. In the previous meetings between the two men Fidal had always found a way to the final. This time around Oleydong managed to see off the Indonesian with a well placed body shot that sent Fidal down. Although he beat the count the referee stopped the bout, despite some protestation from the Indonesian fighter who appeared to be less hurt than he was just a few moments earlier. (Note-Oleydong was introduced as "Oleydong CP Freshmart") Although we haven't been totally impressed by Saenganan KKP, especially following his struggle past Domi Nenokeba, he did look much better in his follow up fight, a clear win over Wilber Andogan for the WBC Asian Boxing Council Continental Light Flyweight title. For Saenganan this is his biggest win to date, saying that however we're still unsure about him, Andogan did his best though he couldn't hit hard enough nor tried hard enought to really test the unbeaten Thai fighter in what was actually a disappointing effort from the Filipino fighter. When we talk about impressive Thai fighters we need to mention Petchorhae Kokietgym who really looked sensation in his blistering win over Filipino Roilo Golez. Although Golez isn't a great fighter no one would have expected this sort of a blow out by Petchorhae who looked in charge from the opening round before laying Golez out in the opening seconds of round 2. Sensational victory and a great way to claim the WBC Asian Boxing Council silver Flyweight title. *Note Petchorhae is known as both "Kokietgym" and "KKP" Numerous Thai fighters are unbeaten, some are more fortunate than others. From this footage it would seem that Light Flyweight hopeful Saenganan KKP is one of the more fortunate ones, at least on the evidence of his bout with Indonesian Domi Nenokeba. The bout, a 6 rounder, saw the Thai coming out on top, though he was dropped and made to look very average against a man who really is a journeyman at the end of the day. It seems that Saenganan is a man who will either blast away foes or struggle and struggling with Nenokeba would suggest he's going to struggle a lot when he steps up beyond this level. (Note-Video lacks rounds 2 and 5, possibly the rounds which won Saenganan the fight) The Kameda family is one of boxing's most controversial. Whether they win or lose they get attention and seem to raise eyebrows. Last year we saw all 3 brothers becoming world champions at the same time, setting a very impressive record at the time. One of the most impressive performances, by any of the Kameda's last year saw Daiki Kameda, the middle brother, claim the IBF Super Flyweight title with an excellent victory over Mexico Rodrigo Guerrero. Going into the bout we had expected Guerrero to over-come Daiki though we need to admit we were impressed by the Japanese fighter who boxed well early on, on the back foot and then was able to show his toughness and trade late on. Sadly for Daiki his reign ended in his first defence just a few months later and since then he hasn't fought due to major issues with the JBC, issues that have kept Koki Kameda out of the ring and prevented Tomoki from fighting in Japan. The lower weights have a number of very promising young fighters in them. Whilst many, such Kosei Tanaka, Stamp Kiatniwat and Ken Shiro are just beginning their journeys other young fighters are more established such as Japanese 24 year old Ryuji Hara. Earlier this year Hara scored his most significant win of his career as he took a very hard fought win over Filipino fighter Donny Mabao and claimed the OPBF Minimumweight title. The bout, which Hara won by majority decision, saw Mabao completely fail to make weight, coming in at 110lbs for a Minimumweight bout and this advantage certainly helped him make the bout more competitive. Since winning this bout Hara hasn't yet defended his title though has fought in a non title bout. As for Mabao, who is now suspended from fighting in Japan, he will be returning to the ring on August 31st to face on an unbeaten and promising Filipino. Back in early 2012 Ryuji Hara was a relative unknown, a prospect who had won the Rookie of the Year but proven little. By the end of the year he was the Japanese champion and a man on the verges of a world ranking. At that same time nobody had any idea who Yokthong Pornchaijit was, now we know Yokthong as Yokthong KKP, and previously Yokthong Kokietgym, the man who was stopped by Zou Shiming. For fans who did know a little something about Yokthong before the Shiming fight they won't have been shocked by that stoppage, after all Hara had taken him out in 2 rounds with a crippling body shot that left the Thai on the canvas in pure agony. Since this fight Hara has claimed both the Japanese and OPBF titles at 105lbs and is ranked by all 4 world bodies Whilst we don't always get what we want we usually get footage of the fights we want and after a little wait we finally came across the video of Jomthong Chuwatana's OPBF Super Featherweight title defence against Koseki Nakama. The bout was Jomthong's first boxing contest for well over a year and saw him making the 3rd defence of his belt against the little known Koseki. Jomthong, for those who aren't aware, is a huge name in Muay Thai and when he turned to boxing a few years ago a lot of Thai fans were very excited about his potential. That excitement grew following his wins over Dong Hyuk Kim, to claim the OPBF title, and Ronald Pontillas though, sadly, he then vanished from boxing and returned to Muay Thai leaving boxing fans wondering if he would ever box again. Thankfully this bout answered those questions. We won't ruin the action though we will apologise for the "quality" of the video, though unfortunately it's the only video of the fight we could find. For that we need to thank youtube user aka0113 who uploaded the fight in full. Poor quality or not it's still better than no quality. Enjoy! |
