Ningbo, China Attention turns to to Chinese this Friday as we get a number of title bouts from a show in Ningbo, which is set to be aired on CCTV5. The most notable bout on the show will see former world champion Xiong Chao Zhong (25-6-1, 14) battle against hard matched Filipino Crison Omayao (17-9-3, 5) in a bout for both the WBC International the OPBF Minimumweight titles. This will be Zhong's first defense of the WBC international belt, that he won earlier this year with a decision against Hiroya Yamamoto, whilst Omayao will look to claim his first international title. Another title fight at 105lbs will see the once beaten Cai Zong Ju (5-1, 1) battle against Mari Ando (12-7, 5) for the WBC International Female title. Ju, who will be defending her belt for the second time will be looking to score her biggest win to date and her third successive win of note, having previous wins over Gretchen Abaniel and Angor Onesongchaigym. For Ando this is a chance to move towards another world title after having come up short 3 times in recent years. A third title bout on this card will see China's Xu Chan (6-2) battle against Thai veteran Chaiyong Sithsaithong (37-13-4, 26) in a bout for the a WBA Oceania title. Chan, who impressed last time when he upset Kris George in Australia, is coming in to this one in some former with a trio of wins including a decision over Hurricane Futa. Despite being highly experienced Chaiyong has never won on the road, where he is 0-8-1, this however is his best chance at changing that. In a non-title bout Mohamadreza Hamze (6-6-1, 2) will face Huang Ju Xiang (0-1). This bout will be Hamze's first since losing in South Korea, albeit to an unknown opponent in a bout not listed on boxrec.com Bangkok, Thailand In Thailand fans will also get some action as Channel 3 airs a small card from Bangkok. The main event of the card will see Thailand's very own Chatpetch Sithmorseng (11-3-2, 6) take on experienced Filipino visitor Jetly Purisima (20-16-4, 5) in a bout for the PABA Super Flyweight title. On paper it's hard to see Purisima winning however we have seen Filipino travel to Thailand in recent months with a very upset minded mentality and that may be the case again here. Other bouts on this card include a bout between Romnakit Technopoly Bangkok (4-0, 3) and Filipino Junar Adante (5-1-1, 2), in what looks like a good match up on paper though Romnakit has looked impressive so far, an all Thai bout between the unbeaten Dennapa Kiatniwat (5-0, 2) and the win-less Kongpichit Sithprayoon (0-3) and a bout featuring Montree Technopoly Bangkok (2-0, 1). Pathum thani, Thailand On a second Thai card, to be aired on Channel 7, Nakornloung will be putting on a show, which features a world ranked fighter and a former world champion. That former world champion is 26 year old "veteran" Suriyan sor Rungvisai (44-6-1, 22) who will be defending his WBC Asian Boxing Council Bantamweight title against Indonesian foe Frans Damur Palue (11-9-2, 6). Suriyan, who is a genuinely world class Bantamweight, shouldn't struggle at all here though the hope is that he will move towards another world title bout in 2016, with a possible bout against Rodrigo Guerrero coming before another shot at the top Another bout on this card will see the unbeaten Nawaphon Por Chokchai (29-0, 22) taking on Medgoen Por Kobkua (0-0). Nawaphon, who is hoping to get a Flyweight world title bout, should pick up an easy win here to take him to 30-0 however the question is whether he will ever get a shot a Roman Gonzalez or whether his #1 ranking with the WBC is meaningless. A more well matched bout, at least on paper, will see Pongsaklek Sithdabnij (4-3-1, 3) attempt to extend his 4 fight winning run as he takes on Heri Purnomo (2-5, 1). Although the records are both poor there is some talk of Pongasklek being one to watch and he has turned his career around after a 0-3-1 start. Incidentally the man that Pongsaklek scored his biggest win against, Kongfah Nakornloung (22-1, 14) will also be in action, albeit against an unknown opponent. *Note we have been informed that “Romnakit Technopoly Bangkok” and “Ronnakit PKT College” are the same fighter likewise “Montree Technopoly Bangkok” and “Montree PKT College”

September 17th-Ono faces Horikawa for Japanese title, Masuda, Tanoka and Takahata also in action!9/14/2015 Tokyo, Japan For a second day running Japanese fans have domestic title action as we see the vacancy at Light Flyweight being filled. The vacancy, which arose after Yu Kimura gave up the title to focus on getting himself a world title shot, will be filled by either former world title challenger Shin Ono (18-6-2, 2) or multi-time domestic challenger Kenichi Horikawa (29-13-1, 6), who meet in an intriguing match up. Of the two men Ono will likely be favoured, he is a former OPBF champion and did, as mentioned, fight for a world title however Horikawa may well “win a big one” after coming up short numerous times in title bouts. We wouldn't suggest this will be a FOTY contender, but it should be very entertaining with a lot of exchanges and trading. Interestingly the winner of the Ono/Horikawa bout may well become an immediate target for the fast rising Ken Shiro who will almost certainly be eyeing up a potential national title clash in 2016. In the chief support bout fans will get the chance to see former Japanese Bantamweight champion Kentaro Masuda (21-7, 11) fight in a warm up bout against Wataru Miyasaka (9-3-1, 2). This should be a relatively straight forward win for Masuda who will be back in action, if he wins, on November 2nd as he takes on Hideo Sakamoto in the Strongest Korakuen bout, with the winner of that one to get a shot at the Japanese Bantamweight title in 2016. Although a clear favourite this will be Masuda's first bout since he was blitzed by Shohei Omori earlier this year Another supporting bout will see Japanese ranked Super Featherweight Ribo Takahata (11-5-1, 3) battle against 2013 All Japanese Rookie of the year Kazuma Sanpei (11-2, 4). Sanpei, who looked really promising back in 2013 has lost back-to-back fights, by stoppage, and will know that he needs a win here if he's to do anything going forward with his career. One other bout of note will see the talented, but light hitting, Jo Tanoka (11-2-3) battle the gutsy, but limited, Mako Matsuyama (7-9-2, 3). Coming in to this bout Tanoka is JBC ranked at Flyweight and will be hoping to move towards a title fight in 2016. Whilst limited Matsuyama is the more well known of the two men following his memorable war with Rex Tso in Macau. (Image courtesy of boxmob.jp) Kyoto, Japan Boxing in Kyoto hasn't been particularly big in recent years. It's a shame but the country really hasn't developed a genuine scene of it's own. That however will forgotten this coming Wednesday when Kyoto based fans get a genuinely brilliant show featuring two local champions who are both hoping to retain their titles and continue their development In the main event we'll see the fast rising Shohei Omori (14-0, 9) defending his Japanese Bantamweight title for the first time. Omori, who destroyed Kentaro Musada earlier this year, will be putting his belt, unbeaten record, and world ranking on the line as he faces former 2-time world title challenger Hirofumi Mukai (11-3-2, 1). On paper this looks like an easy win for Omori, and if he's as good as we suspect, then he'll impress, however Mukai has faced more established fighters than Omori and this could prove to be a tricky first defense for the man dubbed “Yamanaka II”. If Omori does win, as expected, there is serious talk that he could be fighting for a world in the next 12 months. Another title fight on this card will see Japanese Lightweight champion Kota Tokunaga (15-2, 10) defending his title against fellow puncher Yuhei Suzuki (16-4, 12). For Tokunaga this is a genuinely difficult first defense against a heavy handed fighter. For Suzuki this is his third shot at the title, after coming up short against Yoshitaka Kato, twice. This one could be very explosive and with both men having stoppages again them it could turn in to a shoot out! In the chief supporting bout Shun Kosaka (9-2) will face win-less Thai Petchmai Sor Praithong (0-4) in a 8 round bout. Kosaka, who has lost his last 2, will be hoping to score his first win since November 2014. Although not a great fighter Kosaka did show promise last year and should pick up a win here. In another supporting bout Japan's Tamao Ozawa (8-2, 2), the OPBF female Super Flyweight champion, will battle Filipino visitor Carleans Rivas (4-2-3). This 6 round bout will be a non-title contest though it does seem possible that Ozawa will be moved into a world title bout if she puts in an impressive performance here. (Image courtesy of boxmob.jp) September 12th-Taconing defends belt against Fajardo as Filipino prospects also take to the ring!9/9/2015 Metro Manila, Philippines There is huge action in the US and the UK this coming Saturday but there will also be notable action in the Asia with two shows in the Philippines, including a really exciting one in Metro Manila. In the main event fans will get the chance to see heavy handed OPBF Light Flyweight champion Jonathan Taconing (21-2-1, 18) defending his belt against Jomar Fajardo (14-8-2, 7). Taconing, who is one of the most criminally under-rated fighters on the planet, should be getting a world title fight in the near future, if he sees off Fajardo here. As for Fajardo he could find himself playing the spoiler again, as he did last year when he held Francisco Rodriguez Jr to a draw. Despite the result against Rodriguez we'd be amazed if he survives against Taconing here. As one of the support bouts we'll see the talented Juan Martin Elorde (17-1-1, 7) take on Yakobus Heluka (8-12, 1) in a really awful mismatch. Heluka has gone 1-7 coming into this fight, with 5 of those losses coming by stoppage and it's hard to see how he avoids the same fate here, despite the fact Elorde isn't a noted puncher. Another of the support bouts will see Juan Martin Elorde's younger brother, Juan Miguel Elorde (18-1, 9) battle against Rasmanudin (19-11-3, 10). On paper this is another gross mismatch with Rasmanudin going 1-7-1 in his last 9, with hist last loss coming earlier this month to Kongthara KKP. Amazingly Rasmanudin has been stopped 3 times already this year, and we really need to ask what his handlers are doing throwing him into another bout so soon after his last one. One other support bout of note will see 20 year old Flyweight prospect Giemel Magramo (13-0, 10) in action. At the time of writing however his opponent hasn't been announced. Cebu, Philippines There is a second in the Philippines, though one without the big title fight main event. On paper the most interesting bout on this card will see the unbeaten and heavy handed Christian Araneta (9-0, 8) battle against the once beaten Jessie Espinas (11-1, 7). This one promises fireworks and really is a very well matched bout with both men having solid power, and lot to gain with a win. This really could be a bout that turns out to be fantastic for the fans in attendance. On the same card will be another notable prospect, Jack Tepora (14-0, 10). Tepora, dubbed “The Golden Boy”, will be up against experienced foe Jason Egera (21-14, 10). On paper it looks like the typical opponent you'd expect of someone with Tepora's experience but the reality is that Egera hasn't won in over 2 years, and is coming into this one on a 0-6 run. Nevada, USA In an all-Asian bout in the US, on the under-card of Floyd Mayweather's clash with Andre Berto, fans will see Uzbekistan's Sanjarbek Rakhmanov (1-0, 1) battle against Kyrgyzstan's Farkhad Sharipov (4-4, 1). This coming weekend is a big one internationally in boxing, though of course it actually kicks off in Asia with bouts in both China and Thailand. Hangzhou, China The most notable the day's action is in China where Zovi put on a show, their first of 2 notable cards set for September. The main event of the card will see China's really promising Super Bantamweight contender Qiu Xiao Jun (17-2, 7) defend his WBC Silver title against Filipino visitor Diarh Gabutan (19-4-3, 10) in what looks, on paper, to be a competitive contest. Of course paper can lie and we have seen Jun defeat the likes of Silvester Lopez and Jonathan Baat, both by stoppage. Gabutan isn't a bad fighter, though has lost 3 of his last 4 and it's going to be a very tough ask here against a naturally bigger and strong man than himself. Originally the fo-feature was set to see Thailand's Kaewfah Tor Buamas (19-0, 13) face off against well known Australian veteran Michael Katsidis (31-7, 24) in a bout for the WBC Asian Boxing Council Continental Lightweight title. Sadly for those hoping to see “The Great” in action Katsidis has been replaced by British born Australian Andrew Wallace (10-5-1, 6). Given that Wallace is a 37 year old who has gone 1-5 in the last 3 years it's hard to see what brings to the table, though a win for Kaewfah could move him towards bigger and better fights. One other bout that caught our eye from this card will see Thailand's Khunkiri Wor Wissaruth (21-12-1, 14) take on Venezuelan novice Omrri Bolivar (1-0, 1). Khunkiri has lost 4 of his last 5, including stoppage losses to Defry Palulu, in Indonesia last year, and to Rex Tso earlier this year, though he may see this as a chance to pick up a win against an unbeaten fighter. Thailand As well as the action in China there will also be a notable bout in Thailand as the unbeaten, and promising Thong Sithluangphophun (13-0, 9) battles against Danilo Pena (27-21-4, 11) for the PABA Featherweight title. This will see Thong defending the title that he won more than a year ago as he looks to continue his climb through the ranks. This card will be televised on Channel 7 in Thailand. California, USA
There isn't any action in Asia today but there is still a bout featuring an Asian as the experienced Fernando Lumacad (31-9-3, 14), of the Philippines, takes on American Alexis Santiago (18-3-1, 8). The bout looks like an interesting one on paper and although Santiago will be the favourite, given he's a naturally bigger man fighting at home, this should still make for a good contest. Texas, USA The most notable action featuring Asian fighters this coming Sunday comes from Texas where we get two former world champions in action as they both look bounce back from losses in world title action. Of the two men the most notable is former WBO Bantamweight champion Tomoki Kameda (31-1, 19) who faces Englishman Jamie McDonnell (26-2-1, 12), in an attempt to avenge his first career defeat and claim the WBA Bantamweight title. These two faced each other earlier this year in a brilliantly compelling bout that saw McDonnell climb off the canvas to take a narrow decision win over the youngster of the 3 Kameda brothers. Kameda, who had a rematch clause, will be looking to become a 2-time world champion but will need to show much more than he did in the first meetign with McDonnell, especially down the stretch. The other is Tomoki's older brother Daiki Kameda (29-4, 18). Daiki, a former Flyweight and Super Flyweight world champion, willl be facing Mexican slugger Victor Ruiz (19-5, 14) in what looks like a good match up on paper. Kameda hasn't fought since late 2013, when he lost a Super Flyweight unification bout to Liborio Solis, and will likely be rusty here though should over-come Ruiz who has a very padded looking record. Toyama, Japan Whilst the Kameda's will be the biggest name Japanese fighters in action they will certainly not be the only Japanese fighters in action with a show in Toyama. Notably this show will be headlined by two non-Japanese fighters as Venezuelan Juan Jose Landaeta (26-8-1, 20) battles against Panama's Walter Tello (21-8, 8). Landaeta is now based in Japan and will be hoping show some of the form that once lead him to holding the WBA interim Minimumweight title. As for Tello this will be his second bout since he was stopped by Randy Petalcorin in June 2014, and we'd expect him to come up short again here. In another feature bout on this card fans will see the once beaten Aiko Yamagishi (4-1-1, 2) battle former world title challenger Saemi Hanagata (9-6-2, 4) in a 6 round female bout. Hanagata has come up short in her last two bouts but did run Naoko Shibata very close back in February and we expect her to show her ability here. Notably Yamagishi was stopped last time out and this is a big step up in class for her. Bnguet, Philippines The most attractive of three Filipino shows comes from Benguet where we get two bouts that have really caught our eye. The most notable of those bouts will see the once beaten Ben Mananquil (10-1-2, 2) battle against former world ranked fighter Mateo Handig (13-9, 7) in an intriguing Super Flyweight bout. We are fans of Mananquil, who at 23 years old is genuine one to keep an eye on. Handig, who holds a major win over Katsunari Takayama has lost his last 4 and will know that another defeat will spell the end of any dreams he has to make a real name for himself. The other bout will see former world ranked slugger Alie Laurel (13-4, 9) take on Gerry Patenio (4-8-2, 2). Although this is a mismatch we always enjoy watching Laurel in action and he certainly knows a thing or two about upsets, holding wins over Nobuhisa Coronita Doi and Tiger Tor Buamas. We're looking forward to seeing more of Laurel down the line, but this is an easy win following a loss to Ernesto Saulong back in May. As well as the bouts mentioned there will be a number of bouts featuring Indian fighters. Samar, Philippines Another notable show comes from Wastern Samar. The most interesting bout on this card will see the once beaten Neil John Tabanao (11-1,7) attempt to bounce back from his recent loss to Randy Braga. The talented and young Tabano will be up against the limited Alvin Makiling (10-12-3, 3) in what should be a one-sided bout with the 21 year old Tabano coming out on top. In an 8 round support bout the unbeaten Rambo Lagos (4-0-2, 2) will be up against the limited JR Salvador (5-23-3). This should again be a win for the unbeaten man though this could be an interesting test for Lagos. One other bout of note here will see 20 year old Margarito Moya (7-1, 2) in action. Moya was originally reported to be up against Renan Portes (4-2, 1), though it now looks like Moya is out of the bout. Cotabato del Sur, Philippines On another Filipino show fans will get the chance to see promising 21 year old Genesis Libranza (7-0, 5) battle against the very experienced Michael Rodriguez (13-41-1, 3) in a bout set for 10. It's hard to go against the unbeaten man though he does have a lot of questions to be asked before he's stepped up too much. In the co-feature of this show fans will see the return to the ring of Drian Francisco (27-3-1, 21) who faces Jilo Merlin (13-23-2, 2). This will be Francisco's first bout since he was beaten in a round by Jason Canoy, who was recently announced as the opponent for Hianata Maruta's upcoming debut, and this is as a safe a comeback fight as Francisco could possibly have with Melin having lost his last 8. Although the new month has had a slow start it does appear that things are going to get going on the month's first Saturday, and what a day it looks to be with a genuinely mouth watering domestic Japanese card. Tokyo, Japan The Japanese card comes from the Korakuen Hall and features a bit of everything. The main event is a Japanese Light Welterweight interim title fight between the once beaten Masanobu Nakazawa (17-1-1, 7) and former challenger Masayoshi Kotake (9-9-2, 5). Originally Kotake was supposed to fight reigning champion Hiroki Okada though a serious injury to Okada's right thumb saw him need to cancel the bout which has lead to this fight. On paper it's hard to see anything but a win for Nakazawa though the truth is that his record is very padded and this is a huge step up against the much more proven, though limited, Kotake. A really mouth watering match up will see former Japanese Light Welterweight champion Shinya Iwabuchi (25-5, 21) battle against former OPBF champion Romeo Jakosalem (16-10-1, 8). Iwabuchi is rarely in a bad fight and the heavy handed southpaw is known to want another OPBF title fight, having fallen short twice in the past. Jakosalem isn't the fighter he once was, but is still a dangerous foe if given full preparation time, which he has been here, and as a result we're expecting a very special war here. Another former champion in action is the always entertaining Rikiya Fukuhara (30-8-1, 22) who will look for win #31 as he takes on Yusuke Nakagawa (8-3-1, 4). Although not the best fighter on the planet Fukuhara is a real handful for many and he's only been beaten by one man in the last 4 years, the world ranked Satoshi Hosono. It's hard to see Nakagawa giving Fukuhara too many problems here though we'd be shocked if the bout wasn't entertaining all the same. One man who will be hoping to move from contender to champion in the near future is Ryuta Otsuka (14-8-2, 4) who will be risking his JBC ranking against Takaaki Ishikawa (11-6, 6). Otsuka is ranked at Super Flyweight though will be testing the waters at Bantamweight here. Ishikawa, who has lost 2 of his last 3, may see this as a huge opportunity to get himself a domestic ranking and as a result we'd not be shocked for this one to be very exciting. Another really meaningful bout will see Japanese ranked fighters facing off against each other as Hiroya Yamamoto (8-3, 3) takes on Takumi Suda (12-10-2, 3). Both of these men are seen as possible title challengers for the Japanese title in the near future and we'd not be shocked at this bout being incredibly competitive. We've got to admit neither guy has been incredible in recent times though both have mixed with good company. Yamamoto's last two losses have come to Xiong Zhao Zhong and Go Odaira whilst Suda has suffered losses to the likes of Akira Yaegashi, Warlito Parrenas and Shin Ono and both are better than their records indicate. Osaka, Japan A second Japanese show comes form Osaka and really pales in significance to the Tokyo card. The most interesting of two notable bouts will see Akira Shono (8-7-2, 4) face a Thai foe in an 8 round bout. We've not got the name of the Thai though we do know that Shono is ranked by both the OPBF and the JBC, so those rankings could be at risk. The other bout of note will see Takuya Uehara (6-0, 3) facing another Thai foe. It's hard to predict where Uehara is going in his career but this will be his first 8 round bout and there should be some excitement around him even if his opponent is an unknown Thai As well as the two bouts we've mentioned there will be 7 other bouts on this card. Yangju, South Korea In South Korea the KBC put on their next rookie card. On the whole this show is less than inspiring and features mainly 4 rounders. The one bout which isn't for just 4 rounds will see unbeaten teenager Gun Woo Gang (1-0-1, 1) face the more experienced Dong Suk Han (1-6) in a bout scheduled for 6 rounds at Welterweight. Pennsylvania, USA Staying with Korean fighter's we actually get a Korean novice in action in the US as Tae Woong Jung (3-2-2, 3) battles against the unbeaten Antonio Nieves (12-0-1, 6) in an 8 rounder. This is a considerable step up for Jung, who hasn't fought out of Korea before. Sadly for Jung he is 0-2-2 in his last 4 and won't be expected to end that win-less run here. (Image courtesy of boxmob.jp) Bangkok, Thailand
For a second day running Thai fans will get televised action, though this time around the action is a bit more interesting and Channel 7 do appear to have picked up a solid looking card, well solid looking for a Thai show at least. The main event will see the unbeaten Petchchorhae Kokietgym (13-0, 8) trying to record a double over promising Indonesian teenager Iwan Zoda (6-1, 5), in a bout for the interim WBO Asia Pacific Flyweight title. These two men met last October with Petchchorhae taking a 6 round decision win, though since then the Indonesian has picked up 5 straight stoppage wins and could well go into this bout believe he can avenge his sole defeat. We'll admit we're actually rather exciting about this one. The key support bout here will see former world title challenger Samartlek Kokietgym (21-5, 6) take on Indonesia's Iwan Key (9-12-3, 1). It's hard to see Key offering much resistance to Samartlek, who has run up 4 wins since his 11th round TKO loss to Naoya Inoue, almost a year ago to the day. One man we're excited to see return to action is unbeaten prospect Kongthara KKP (8-0, 6) who will be up against Indonesia's Rasmanudin (19-10-3, 10). A few years ago this would have been a solid bout but in recent times Rasmanudin has become a “loser” and is 1-6-1 in his last 8. We expect this to be another loss to the talented and fast rising Rasmanudin. After a few days grave the action resume in Asia with shows in Japan and Thailand. Tokyo, Japan Of the two Asian show's we must admit it's the Japanese card that has caught our eye with a bout that promises fun supported by a couple of 8 rounders. Technically the main event is a Super Flyweight bout between Japanese Flyweight Shuji Hamada (13-6-4, 2) and Masashi Odaira (5-4-2, 2). We'll be honest this isn't a main event level bout, but it should be an action packed one and the fact a ranked contender is in action makes the bout noteworthy. The chief support bout, though in our eyes the most exciting bout on the card, will see former Japanese title challenger Koichi Aso (19-6-1, 12) battle against the heavy handed Tatsuya Miyazaki (8-6-1, 8). “Shamgar” Koichi is rarely in a bad fight and is genuinely one of the most fun to watch domestic level fighters in Japan, as a result we expect this one will be a lot of fun when the two clash in the ring. Notable Aso will be hoping that a win here puts him on the verge of another title fight, either at the Japanese level or the OPBF level. The remaining 8 rounder will see Hiroki Saito (6-8-1, 4) battle against Takeshi Goda (7-4-1, 2) in what looks like a relatively well matched contest, despite the spotty records of both men. On paper Goda will be the favourite though he is win-less in hist last 3 whilst Saito has gone 4-1-1 in his last 6, suggesting this could be more competitive than it looks on paper. Chonburi, Thailand In Thailand fans get televised action, courtesy of channel 11, though we must admit it's not the type of action that really gets us excited. The main event will see Morakote Patanakan Gym (11-6, 6) battle against Richie Behec (2-3-1, 1) in a bout for the WBA Asia Flyweight title. Interestingly both of these men have been stopped by up coming world title challenger Young Kil Bae. Sadly however neither man has scored a win worth making a note of and we do wonder why the WBA have sanctioned this bout for any title, even one as insignificant as the Asia title. On the same card will be a bout between Saengchai Sithprayoon (1-1, 1) and Pakasit Twins Gym (0-3), showing just how poor this show is. Also scheduled to be in action here is Chingchai Kiatpracha (7-3, 3), though his opponent has yet to be named. (Image courtesy of boxmob.jp) |
