This past Friday saw two Asian shows.
Hangzhou, China The most notable of the two Asian shows came from Thailand. In the main event Chinese fans saw local star Qiu Xiao Jun (18-2, 8) retain his WBC “Silver” Super Bantamweight title with a 6th round KO win against Filipino Diarh Gabutan (19-5-3, 10). At times Jun was made to look very silly by the movement of Gabutan however a left hook in round 6 dropped the Filipino for the count. Ranked #1 by the WBC Jun should be in line for a world title shot but this performance showed that there was still a lot of improvements that the 25 year old will want to make before testing himself against the best in the world. In the chief support bout Thailand's unbeaten Kaewfah Tor Buamas (20-0, 13) maintained his unbeaten record, and claimed the WBC Asian Boxing Council Continental Lightweight title, with a decision win against Andrew Wallace (10-6-1, 6). On paper this was a mismatch but Wallace really pushed Kaewfah all the way in a very competitive fight. A more competitive bout, at least on the cards, saw Herman Ene Purcell (6-4, 4) claim a majority decision over Isaraphap Sor Varunee (3-3. 2). This 6 round bout had 3 very close cards but Purcell did deserve the win. Another 6 rounder saw Japan's Hurricane Futa (19-5-1, 10) take a 5th round technical decision over Hero Tito (10-8-1, 3). The bout ended with Futa suffering a cut over this right eye from a head-clash and the fighters needed to go to the cards early on with Futa taking a split technical decision. Another contest saw Venezuelan novice Omrri Bolivar (2-0, 1) take a 5 round unanimous decision win over Thailand's Khunkiri Wor Wisaruth (21-13-1, 14). The bout, originally scheduled for 6 rounds, was re-scheduled to just 5 rounds with Bolivar taking the win. In an all debutant bout Ding Ya Jie (0-0-1) fought to a 4 round draw with Dang Liang Liang (0-0-1). Thailand The other show was in Thailand. The main event on this card saw the unbeaten Thong Sithluangphophun (14-0, 9) take a 12 round decision victory against game Filipino Danilo Pena (27-22-4, 11). Thong, defending his PABA Featherweight title, was put under pressure by Pena but knew too much and deserved the win, though it was one he had to work for. Despite Pena's record he is a game competitor and he showed that here. Thong's stablemate Hanuman Sithluangporphun (11-4, 3) also managed to pick up a win as he out pointed Jack Amisa (21-37-2, 14). Although Hanuman did pick up the win we're unsure just how far he can go, for Amisa this was a 23rd loss in Thailand. In the least significant of the bouts televised from this show fans saw Yodsingdaeng Jor Chaijinda (9-1, 5) score a clear win over the game but out matched Thaminkhao Sor Tharnthip (4-16-1, 3). The once beaten Yodsingdaeng really bullied Thaminkhao, especially in round 4, as he forced the stoppage over a man who really battered in the final round. Alberta, Canada In Canada fans saw the professional debut of Filipino Heavyweight Stan Surmacz Ahumada (1-0, 1) who over-came fellow debutant Dale Swampy (0-1) in just 48 seconds

Bangkok, Thailand
The first of Thursday action came from Bangkok and was shown on Thai TV as the Tor Buamas stable of fighters had a successful outing. The main event, a real mismatch, saw veteran Samson Tor Bumas (36-3, 18) dispatch of Filipino visitor Lady Love Sampiton (2-4, 1) in just 88 seconds. The bout, for a WIBA title, left us wondering why WIBA had sanctioned it given that Sampiton had done nothing to earn herself a shot at any title. For Samson she really needs to start looking at bigger and better bouts. Another female bout saw Hongfah Tor Buamas (19-5, 2) take a decision win over Julia Corigan (0-1) in what was Hongfah's second bout of the year. Sadly the Thai's lack of power does seem likely to hold her back but the 21 year old will likely find herself in some sort of big match up in the coming years. As well as the two female bouts there was also a trio of male bouts. One of those saw promising 24 year old Lucky Tor Buamas (5-0, 5) take a 3rd round KO win against the win-less Petchmai Sor Praithong (0-4). Another unbeaten fighter picking up a win here was Kaewfah Tor Buamas (19-0-2, 13) who defeated veteran Rick Paciones (6-20-2, 3) in the 3rd round. The male member of the Tor Buamas stable to pick up a win was Pharanpetch Tor Buamas (16-0, 12) who defeated the tough but limited Joel Kwong (1-9, 1), who was stopped for just the second time. Tokyo, Japan In Japan there was a small show which featured some domestically ranked fighters in some bouts that mattered on the domestic scene, even if they didn't really catch the attention of international fight fans. The main event of the show saw former Japanese title challenger Tatsuya Takahashi (20-6-4, 15) score a 4th round TKO win over Kenta Toi (4-6, 1). On paper this looked like a total mismatch, especially given that Takahashi had given Kentaro Masuda hell in a Japanese title fight last year, on boxrec however these two were closely ranked and the win will give Takahashi a noteworthy boost in their rankings, possibly pushing him into the top 100. Another former Japanese title challenger on this card was Heavyweight veteran Kotatsu Takehara (12-11-3, 6) who took a 4th round TKO win against South Korean Ki-Nam Kim (4-8-3, 2). The 36 year old Takehara has now scored back-to-back wins following stoppages losses to Kyotaro Fujimoto and Nobuhiro Ishida, and will be looking for the JBC to allow him to continue his career, despite reaching the age in which fighters are usually retired by the JBC. A third of the notable bouts on this card also ended in the 4th round as Kazuaki Moriya (12-7, 2) surprisingly stopped Mikiya Ishikawa (9-7, 1). Moriya had entered this bout on a run of 4 losses though showed that his form was more down to the level he had been fighting at than his own ability and this win will certainly boost his floundering career. Another of the main bouts that failed to go the distance ended in a small upset as Keigo Soma (7-11-1, 4) took a 5th round TKO win against Atsushi Hosogai (7-9). Coming into the bout Soma had won just one of his last 6 bouts thought showed there was plenty left in the take with the win here. Sadly for Hosogai his career is now floundering. The only scheduled 8 rounder to go the distance saw Kinshiro Usui (23-4, 10) take a split decision over Kota Sato (10-7-2, 5). Usui who has mixed at a high level, will move towards a title fight after this win, though will need at least another couple of solid wins before getting a shot domestically. It was however a solid win for the 35 year old who really is battling against time. To open this card fans had a trio of 4 rounders. The shortest of those saw Shuhei Hamano (1-3, 1) score his first career victory with a 53 second blow out over Hitachitaro Mito (1-2), another early win saw the debuting Kiyokazu Kanagae (1-0, 1) score a 3rd round win over Shohei Koizumi (0-1). The only under-card bout that went the distance saw Tatsuya Mastumoto (2-2) take a unanimous decision over Naoki Uebayashi (1-2). Kamegai comes up short, Srisaket swats Sada, Kongfah, Kaewfah and Pharanpetch remain perfect3/21/2015 This past Friday was a busy day for Asian boxing with fighters in action in both the west and the east, including two Thai shows.
Bangkok, Thailand In the most significant of two Thai shows fans got the chance to see some of the more notable fighters from the Nakornluang stable of fighters. The most notable fighter in action was former WBC Super Flyweight world champion Srisaket Sor Rungvisai (33-4-1, 30) who made light work of the horribly matched Madit Sada (9-21-1, 3). Sada was the proverbial lamb to the slaughter, and like a lamb he put up little resistance before being stopped in the 3rd round by Srisaket, who did little more than sharpen his tools. Another somewhat notable fighter on this card was Kongfah Nakornluang (20-0, 12) who retained his WBC Youth silver Super Flyweight title as he easily beat Indonesian challenger Ricky Morales (4-1-1) who looked under-sized, inexperienced and was generally no match for Kongfah. As is common Kongfah looked huge in comparison to his foe and we really are curious as to how he makes Flyweight Another early finish on this show saw Denchai Por Korbkua (2-2, 1) score his first stoppage win as he took out Petchboon Sithsaithong (2-2, 2) in the 3rd round. This was a high tempo and enjoyable affair though Petchboon seemed unable to cope with the pressure and aggression of Denchai, who was sloppy but fun to watch. The only bout on the show that went the distance saw the previously win-less Toto Lookmuangbangklang (1-1) over-come the debuting Songkramchai Etinakorn (0-1) over the 6 round distance. Chachoengsao, Thailand A second Thai show, televised on Channel 11, featured a couple of unbeaten Tor Buamas prospects who both continued to advance their perfect records. One of those prospects was Kaewfah Tor Buamas (18-0, 12) who over-came Indonesian visitor Boido Simanjuntak (18-28-1, 7) in 4 rounds of their Lightweight encounter. Simanjuntak has now lost 10 in a row and is win-less in more than 2 years however he is the best fighter Kaewfah has beaten so far. Although unbeaten Kaewfah has had a very uninspiring career thus far, and it's time he kicked on and stepped up a level. The other prospect was Pharanpetch Tor Buamas (15-0, 11) who defeated the Chaosamut Padjaigym (0-1) in 3 rounds. Pharanpetch has faced better opponents than his stablemate but, just like Kaewfah, he really needs to begin stepping up his opposition as bouts like this are relatively pointless for such a talented fighter. Chiba, Japan In Japan we had an equally low level show in Chiba where fans had 7 bouts, unfortunately though only one of those bouts had any noteworthy quality. That one notable bout saw Japanese hopeful Tsukasa Saito (20-3, 15) make light work of Thailand's win-less Fasanghan Or Benjamad (0-8) who continues his run of stoppage defeats. Fasanghan was stopped in the 2nd round by Saito who will be hoping to move towards a Japanese title fight later in the year. In the main support bouts fans had a couple of 6 rounders. One of those saw Corrales Kawashima (5-5-1, 2) level off his record with a 2nd round stoppage win against Hiroshi Miwa (4-7, 2) with Miwa suffering his 7th stoppage loss. The other 6 rounder sadly ended in unsatisfactory fashion with a 2nd round technical draw in a bout between Haruka Itakura (4-1-1, 1) and Katsunori Imai (5-6-2). The 4 under-card bouts here were all 4 rounders. One of those bouts saw Yoshihiro Furukawa (1-1, 1) claim his first win as he stopped the still win-less Kazuya Nomura (0-4-1) in the 3rd round. Another early win was scored by Ken Matsuzawa (1-0, 1) who stopped Hiroki Arakawa (0-2) in round 2 of their contest. A more competitive bout saw Toshiaki Akimoto (1-0) take a narrow win over Mirai Imagawa (0-1) whilst Atsuhsi Suzuki (0-0-1) and Yuki Ishikawa (0-0-1) fought to a split decision draw in an all debutant affair. California, USA The most significant bout of the day was also the last and came in the US where the popular Yoshihiro Kamegai (25-3-1, 22) battled against former world title challenger Alfonso Gomez (25-6-2, 12) in a bout that was highly entertaining and action packed. Early on Gomez was too smart and won a number of early rounds on his movement. As the bout progressed Gomez slowed and Kamegai managed to come back into it. Sadly for Kamegai much of his efforts were ignored by the judges who had the bout scored far too wide. Victoria, Australia In Australia there were several Asian fighters in action, including an all-Asian fight. That all-Asian bout saw Australian based Filipino Czar Amonsot (27-3-3, 17) over-come Thai visitor Padjai Yongyuthgym (18-2-2, 12) in a 6 round bout. The world ranked Amonsot was effectively staying busy here though hopefully next time out he will face a stiffer opponent. The other Asian on this card was Filipino journeyman Rodynie Rafol (12-7-2, 5) who lost a 6 round bout against the popular though faded Michael Katsidis (31-7, 24). Although Katsidis won he did struggle and it's clearer than ever that he needs to walk away from the sport before he gets beaten by a fighter at this level. This past Friday might have been Halloween but is wasn't a scary day for many with numbers fighters picking expected wins in Asia. Thailand In Thailand we had two cards with the most interesting of those being headlined by the unbeaten Kaewfah Tor Buamas (18-0, 12) who retain his WBA Asia Super Featherweight title with an easy and clear win over Indonesian challenger Tony Arema (3-6). The Thai was comfortable through out and picked up the pace in round 6 before Arema retired in his corner accepting his loss. Sadly this sort of a mismatch is all to common place in the Thai scene and we do wonder what a bout like this really does for Kaewfah. Thailand A second Thai card saw Petch Sor Chitpattana (27-0, 18) successfully defend his WBC Youth Silver Bantamweight title with a third round victory over a yet unidentified foe. Whilst on the same card veteran Noknoi Sitthiprasert (50-4, 29) scored his 50th professional win. Sadly we've yet to identify his opponent either. Ulsan, South Korea The biggest Asian card of the day took place in South Korea where we had a mysterious 6 bout card. The main event on the show saw Jung-Hoon Yang (9-6, 2) successfully defend the South Korean Welterweight title with a 10 round decision over Ma-Roo Jung (2-3-1). The scorecards here were interesting to say the least with a card of 99-94 put in by one judge indicating there was a clear winner but a number of competitive cards. The chief support bout saw Yong-Hwan Jun (3-3, 1) take a clear decision over Kyun-Ho Nam (0-2-1) with Nam being dropped twice in the opening round. The undercard consisted of 4 bouts scheduled for 4 rounds. These saw Joo-Young Kwon (2-0) extend his unbeaten record with a decision over the debuting Woong-Chan Song (0-1) whilst a second debutant Woo-Min Kim (1-0) took a decision over Joon-Young Yoon (0-2). Neither of the other 2 under-card bouts went close to seeing the distance as as Tae-Kyung Um (1-4-2, 1) took a 2nd round TKO over Sung-Min Jo (0-1-1) whilst the unbeaten Jae-Man Kim (2-0, 1) scored a 35 second blow out against debutant Jung-Ho Kim (0-1). Vladikavkaz, Russia In Russia we had a 5 bout card headlined by a regional Cruiserweight title bout between Murat Gassiev (19-0, 13) and Engin Karakaplan (12-5-1, 5). Gassiev made very light work of Karakaplan who scored a 99 second victory to claim the IBF Inter-Continental Cruiserweight title. Other than the main event all the other bouts went the distance. These included a 6 round decision victory for the hard hitting Alexey Zubov (6-0, 4) who over-came Isroil Qurbonov (8-9-1, 3). A second 6 rounder saw a Soslan Tedeev (5-0, 4) take a clear win over Sadiki Momba (17-5-2, 5), despite being deducted a point in round 3 for a rabbit punch. In an 8 rounder Evgeny Pavko (7-0-1, 3) took a decision over Mikheil Avakyani (26-17-4, 12) whilst the once beaten Rauf Aghayev (15-1, 5) took a competitive win over Ruslan Berchuk (9-5, 5). Queensland, Australia In Australia we saw two Filipino's in action with mixed fortunes. In an bout for the WBA Oceania Super Featherweight title fans saw the Australian based Filipino Jack Asis (32-18-5, 17) extend a 12 fight unbeaten streak with his 11th win since February 2011. Asis made extremely light work of Isaias Santos Sampaio (19-9, 19) who came with a punchers reputation but certainly couldn't take a decent shot himself. The second bout saw Amor Tino (14-20-4, 4) fail in his unexpected attempt to claim the WBA Oceania Light Welterweight title. Tino was a late replacement for Fernando Ferreira da Silva who injured himself on the day of the weight in and sadly the lack or preparation was obvious as Tino struggled immensely with the talented Kris George (7-0, 5). George dropped Tino in rounds 1 and 6 and and the Filipino lost his mouth piece numerous times en route to a wide 10 round decision loss. (Image courtesy of boxrec.com) Thailand
The action today was minimal to say the least with just a single contest in Thailand that took place on a Muay Thai card. Unfortunately it was a total mismatch as Kaewfah Tor Buamas (17-0, 11) retained his WBA Asian Super Featherweight title with an easy 3rd round victory over limited Indonesian visitor Oke Haryanto (5-4-1, 2). Haryanto was last seen being stopped in a round in Japan by Tatsuya Ikemizu so this is a relatively disappointing result for Kaewfah. Whilst the result was bad the stoppage was even worse with Haryanto looking like he went down very easily and had no intention of ever trying to get back to his feet. We wouldn't call it a dive but it was clear that Haryanto was happy to get out of the bout. We're sorry when we get delayed results but this Monday's results were ones that took a while to get to us, sadly. Thankfully here they are!
Camarines Sur, Philippines Much of the days Asian action was in the Philippines on a show at the Pili Capitol Convention Center which featured 8 bouts in total. This card's main event saw Al Sabaupan (22-2-1, 17) scoring an 8th round retirement victory over Sadiki Momba (16-4-2, 4) as he recorded his second successive victory following a loss to Ricardo Dominguez, in Mexico, in March 2013. Sabaupan could wellfind himself in a notable bout by the end of the year though will need to keep racking up victories to get anyone of any real fame after him. In the co-feature the unbeaten JR Magboo (15-0-2, 7) out pointed the limited Angelito Merin (7-4-2, 1) to continue the excellent unbeaten run to his career. It's now time that Magboo stepped up a level from the Merin's of the world and took on a notable domestic rival in a bout that could put him onto the Asian scene as opposed to just the domestic one. Another of the scheduled 10 rounders saw Jetro Pabustan (23-2-5, 6) taking a 9th technical decision victory over the very tough Danilo Pena (26-18-3, 11) who has now gone 1-8-1 in his last 10 bouts. Although Pena's record, especially recently, has been poor he is significantly trickier than the numbers suggest. The hard hitting Al Rivera (10-1, 8) managed to continue to leave a wake of battered fighters behind him as he stopped the usually durable Rufino Mante (8-18-2, 4) to continue his winning run, which now stands at 10 straight wins following a debut defeat. Rather oddly 3 of the 8 bouts on the show ended in the 2nd round. These bouts saw Michael Dasmarinas (16-1, 10) defeating the experienced Elbert Guardario (8-25-1, 2), who retired from the bout, Lolito Sonsona (18-1-4, 8) also recorded a 2nd round retirement victory as Jovel Romasasa (10-14, 4) had had enough rather early in their bout. The other early finish came Michael Rosal (3-2, 2) knocked out the debuting Filipe Auganan (0-1). The only other bout on the card saw Justo Bornilla (4-0-2) held to a 6 round majority draw by Jheritz Chavez (2-0-2, 2). Surprisingly both men kept their unbeaten records in this one. Thailand We've been informed by our Thai source that Kaewfah tor Buamas (16-0, 9) successfully claimed the WBA Asia Super Featherweight title with a stoppage over China's Shi Shi Long (0-9-1) who we believe was stopped in the 11th round of their bout. This bout, not yet listed on boxrec, was solidly covered with a military presence due to the current political situation in Thailand which unfortunately doesn't seem like it's going to calm down any time soon. Thankfully we've not heard off too many major issues even if it's not particularly stable at the moment. As always thanks go out to Pal for the information regarding the Thai fight. With many in boxing excited about Saturday nights action in the US it was easy to forget that we also had some interesting action on Friday. Ratchaburi, Thailand The Asian action for Friday was all in Thailand and televised on Channel 7, unfortunately though it wasn't at a great level. In fact even the most interesting contest wasn't really one worth getting excited about. The main event saw female Thai great Samson Tor Buamas (33-3, 15) defeat the debuting Swede Ellenor Maria (0-1) to defend the WIBA Minimumweight title. The bout, a complete mismatch, really went the way everyone expected it would with the experienced fighter defeating the novice with complete ease. On the same card two of Samson's stable mates also picked up wins. One of those was the unbeaten Kaewfah Tor Buamas (15-0, 9) who managed to out point debutant Mario Todorov (0-1) over 6 rounds. The other Tor Buamas fighter on the show was Tiger Tor Buamas (17-1, 12) who scored his second win since being upset by Alie Laurel earlier this year. Tiger, fighting against the awful Hongdam Chor Vachira (0-3) took home a decision though will have felt disappointed in the fact he was take the distance by Hongdam who had been stopped in his two previous bouts. (Image, of Samson, courtesy of boxrec.com) This past Thursday saw action spread nice across Asia with fights in Thailand, the Philippines and Russia. Whilst none of the fights were hugely significant there was enough notable action to interest fans from all over the continent. Samut Sakhon, Thailand Arguably the most notable of those 3 cards was in Thailand, on Channel 9, with the headline bout being between Pharanpetch Tor Buamas (13-0, 9) and Rey Las Pinas (18-9-5, 11). The unbeaten Pharanpetch was given a much tougher than expected battle by Las Pinas though did managed to take home a decision to defend WBC Asian Boxing Council Super Featherweight title. Pharanpetch was one of 5 Tor Buamas fighters on the card, all of whom won. Amongst those others was top female fighter Samson Tor Buamas (32-3, 14) who defeated the debuting Saengmanee Sor Kulawong (0-1) via a 6 round decision. Another notable name on show was the former WBO Oriental Bantamweight champion Tiger Tor Buamas (16-1, 12) who also took a 6 round decision over a debuting fighter Srisomdech Kwanjaisrikod (0-1). Another decision on the card saw the debuting Laithai Tor buamas (1-0) defeat fellow debutant Saengsakda Chor Vachira (0-1). The only stoppage on the card saw the unbeaten, and much touted, Kaewfah Tor Buamas (14-0, 9) stopping the debuting Rafael Naffa (0-1) who was stopped in 2 rounds. Unfortunately the card did feature too many debuting opponents to really be classed as a major show despite the talented fighters who were showcased. Metro Manila, Philippines Whilst the card in Thailand was the most notable, at least in regards to television exposure, the most interesting was arguably the Filipino card which feature 2 title bouts from the shows 6 total bouts. This card's lowest profile bout saw the unbeaten Toto Landero (3-0, 1) scoring a decision on an unknown opponent before a series of KO's saw Andrew Palas (3-2, 1) stop Marco Niones (3-12, 1), the unbeaten Richard Claveras (7-0-2, 7) wipe out Rolando Niones (4-16-2, 2) and the very exciting Warlito Parrenas (19-6, 17) stopped Ryan Soliveres (4-24-1, 1). Combined those 3 stoppages took a total of 4 rounds. Following the under card we then moved on to the title bouts. The most disappointing of these saw a 4th round technical decision after Rey Juntilla (17-4-3, 10) suffered an horrendous cut at the end of the 4th round. Juntilla, fighting against Edison Berwela (12-28-7, 3), was rightfully ruled unfit to continue and as a result the Philippines Boxing Federation (PBF) Super Bantamweight title remains vacant. The other title fight was a close and tense affair as Rene Dacquel (11-3, 3) took a very, very hard fought decision over the experienced Albert Alcoy (14-18-7, 4) to win the Philippines Luzon Professional Boxing Association (LuzProBA) Super Flyweight title. Novorossiysk, Russia As well as the bouts in Asia there was also a card in Russia. This card, headlined by the destructive Dmitry Kudryashov (13-0, 13) may not have been a hugely exciting card but it did see the man of the hour scoring his biggest win to date. Kudryashov, fighting against Lubos Suda (31-9-1, 23), continued his reign of terror with his 13th straight stoppage and it seems only a matter of time before he faces a genuine world ranked opponent. In the chief support bout the unbeaten Viskhan Murzabekov (8-0, 4) took a decision over journeyman Bogdan Protsyshyn (7-9, 2). The undercard saw Zubayra Suleymanov (3-1) take a decision over the debutant Mykola Polezhaev (0-1), Varazdat Chernikov (6-2, 1) claimed a decision over the win-less Andriy Danichkin (0-10-1) and Rustem Abdinanov (0-1-1) fought to a draw with Abdulkhamid Abdulkhamidov (0-1-1).
