Bangkok, Thailand
There wasn't much action this past Wednesday though Thai fans did get a televised show on Mono29. The card featured a single title fight and a trio of bouts involving promising Thai's who look like they may well have the potential to compete at a higher level, down the line at least. The main event was the aforementioned title fight and it saw Thailand's Patomsith Pathompothong (13-4, 5) take a clear decision victory over Filipino visitor Benjie Suganob (9-4-1, 5) to claim the IBF Pan Pacific Featherweight title. This was Patomsith's first bout since losing a decision, earlier this year, to Hisashi Amagasa and there was no doubting that this latest bout was more “at his level”. Another Thai on this card with international experience was Eaktawan Mor Krungthepthonburi (15-3, 10) who took a decision win against Indonesian visitor Frans Damur Palue (11-9-2, 6). Eaktawan, fighting for the second time as a Kiatkreerin fighter, has now strong together 9 straight wins since losing a decision in 2013 to Froilan Saludar. To date the only men to have beaten Eaktawan are Saludar, Sho Ishida and rising Filipino sensation Albert Pagara, all of whom beaten Eaktawan when the Thai travelled. One unbeaten prospect on this card was the touted Atchariya Tor Chantaroj (5-0, 2) who scored his second stoppage win by seeing off the fragile Anshori Anhar Pitulay (8-16-2, 6) in the 2nd round of their bout. Pitulay has now been stopped 14 times in his 26 bouts. Another unbeaten prospect to pick up a win was Denchana Sakkreerin (3-0), who picked up a 6 round decision win over fellow novice Paisuk Pothonggym (0-2).

Bangkok, Thailand
The most notable of the day's action, for us, was in Thailand where Mono29 aired an interesting card. The main event was a highly anticipated bout that saw IBF Flyweight champion Amnat Ruenroeng (16-0, 5) successfully defending his title against explosive Filipino Johnriel Casimero (21-3, 13). On paper this was a fantastic match up but sadly it resulted in a foulfest with referee Larry Doggett acting as an enabler for Amnat's dirty style. There was no real doubting the winner but the bout really was badly marred by the poor officiating which did next to nothing to force “boxing” action and instead the bout resembled a street fight at times. Amnat wasn't the only “older fighter” in action in Thailand as 35 year old Manus Boonjumnong (1-0) made his professional debut. The Thai, who appeared to be fat as a well as old, was a 2004 Olympic champion who showed real touches of class as he dominated Indonesian veteran Jamed Jalarante (23-19-1, 11) in a very 1-sided 4 round bout. Manus, despite his age, still has speed but we do suspect it'll be too little too late for him to have a serious career. The televised portion of this card saw Atchariya Virotesunobon (4-0, 1) show traits of being a really exciting prospect as he easily out pointed Indonesia's Stevi Ongen Ferdinandus (16-9-1, 8) over 10 rounds. The unbeaten man really did look classy at times with a great variety of shots, lovely movement and an exciting ability to throw combinations, though we do wonder about his power at this early stage of his career. In a bout not shown on Mono29 former world title challenger Denver Cuello (36-5-6, 24) made light work of Boy Tanto (9-17, 1), who was stopped in the 5th round. The bout was a stay busy contest for the Filipino slugger who is now expected to return to Thailand to fight Wanheng Menayothin in December in a WBC world title fight. Metro Manila, Philippines In the Philippines fans got a small show in Metro Manila. It wasn't a big one but there title action and a couple of competitive under-card bouts. The title bout saw Japanese puncher Toshi Makoto Aoki (20-12-1, 17) retain his WBC Asian Boxing Council Lightweight title with a 3rd round victory over limited Indonesian Eddy Comaro (32-24-5, 13), who was stopped for the 10th time in his career. Coming into the bout Comaro had won his last 3 but the big punching Aoki was simply too strong from the off. On the under-card there was a couple of draws. One of those saw the unbeaten Prabhjot Singh (2-0-1, 2) fight to a 6 round majority draw with Jeffrey Garcia (1-3-1, 1). The other draw saw Jerwin Mejes (2-1-1, 2) fight an even bout with Jerwin Dela Rosa (2-5-1). Queensland, Australia There was interesting action involving Asian fighters in Australia where we had several Asian fighters in action, including an all-Asian bout and a genuine upset. The all Asian bout saw Aussie based Filipino Jack Asis (34-18-5, 18) continue his Cinderella man story with a split decision win over Indonesian visitor Hero Tito (10-7-1, 3). The bout, an 8 round contest, saw Asis taking a split decision win in a less than inspiring performance, though one that saw him extend his current unbeaten record to 14 bouts (13-0-1). The upset of the card saw China's Xu Chan (6-2) claim the WBA Oceania Light Welterweight title with a unanimous decision victory over the previously unbeaten Kris George (7-1, 5). Chan went into the bout as the clear under-dog though put on an inspiring performance to claim the biggest win of his career so far. The other Asian on this card was Wang Xinghua (11-12-1) who lost a competitive decision to Will Young (5-4, 2). Sadly the results from Friday haven't yet all come in but we thought it would make sense to put what we have here rather than with hold several days of results.
Surat Thani, Thailand The televised action came from Thailand where fans got 4 bouts on Channel 7. Sadly however they left little to really talk about. In main event we saw Patomsith Pathompothong (12-3, 5) claim the IBF Asia Featherweight title as he saw off Indonesian fighter Jason Butar Butar (18-16-1, 14) in the 4th round. Butar Butar has now lost 4 of his last 5 and is now 0-6 outside of Indonesia. We do however have to wonder what the IBF were doing putting a title on the line here, given what both men had achieved thus far in their careers. The most one sided of the bouts saw the unbeaten Atchariya Virotesunobon (3-0, 1) stop Indonesian debutant Mohammed Sampoadi (0-1) inside a round following a monster uppercut. The shot didn't appear to land cleanly but was enough to convince Sampoadi to stay down and take the count. Although this was a mismatch we do like what we saw of the unbeaten Thai. A more competitive bout on the under-card saw Denchana Chanadejgym (1-0) over come fellow debutant Saknarong Suktaweegym (0-1) in a forgettable 6 rounder. Sadly whilst this was competitive it was also thoroughly ugly and not worth watching. Another all debutant bout saw Sakpathom Chanadejgym (0-0-1) fight to a draw with Kengkaj Suktaweegym (0-0-1). This was much more enjoyable than the other all debutant contest and is actually worth a watch as both guys went for the win. Connecticut, USA In a very one sided bout we Uzbek fighter Sherzodbek Alimjanov (22-3, 13) was widely out pointed by Ray Robinson (20-2, 9). Alimjanov was dropped in round 4 and struggled to win more than a round in a bout that showed the levels between the two men New South Wales, Australia In Australia it was a bad day for Super Featherweight hopeful Bebong Manalo (10-3, 7) who was stopped in 3 rounds by Billel Dib (17-1, 8). The bout, for the interim WBO Oriental Super Featherweight title, did see accusations being thrown Dib's way regarding the weigh in, which he was accused of not attending, but that didn't help Manalo who was stopped for the 3rd time in his career. This past Friday had a couple of Thai cards, both of which were televised.
Surat Thani, Thailand The most notable name of the day was in action on Thai channel 7 who aired a show from Surat Thani and despite the show not being a key one the main event was a notable bout, whilst the undercard featured a local novice against highly experienced opposition. The main event on this show saw Fahlan Sakkreerin Jr (27-3-1, 16) successfully retain his IBF Asia Light Flyweight as he out pointed Japanese challenger Shunji Nagata (10-13-2, 3) in what was Fahlan's first defence of the title he won last December, when he over-came Armando dela Cruz. Incidentally this was Fahlan's 3rd fight against a Japanese foe since he announced himself to fans world wide with his huge career defining upset win over Ryo Miyazaki, it's also his first win over a Japanese foe since that shock win. One of the novices on this undercard was Atchariya Virotesunobon (2-0) who marked the beginning of his career with a decision win over the rather durable Heri Andriyanto (20-18-2, 10). Although we won't try and tell you that Andriyanto is a great fighter the Indonesian is a very tough opponent for a novice and Atchariya deserves real credit for such a notable win. Not only was this a notable win but the performance was also credible from a very strong and patient looking Thai prospect The other bout featured Patomsith Pathompothong (11-3, 4) who over-came experienced Indonesian journeyman Arief Blader (20-16-1, 7). Khon Kaen, Thailand The other Thai show of the day was televised on Channel 11 and featured a former female world champion and several promising fighters who currently fighter under the Tor Buamas banner. The main event on this card was a horrible mismatch as the very talented Pharanpetch Tor Buamas (14-0, 10) successfully defended his WBC Asian Boxing Council Super Featherweight title with a 3rd round stoppage against the over-matched Ramli Pasaribu (3-6, 1). The mismatch is made worse by the fact that Pharanpetch is now 27 and cannot keep wasting time with mismatches like this, especially given that this was his first bout since last March! Sadly Pharanpetch wasn't the only fighter in a mismatch on this card as former WBC female Light Flyweight champion Samson Tor Buamas (35-6, 17) took on the debuting Meree Sor Rapeewan (0-1), who was stopped in the 2nd round. This was Samson's 9th forgettable bout since she lost to Nadia Raoui in Germany way back in September 2012. Samson wasn't the only female fighter picking up a win as Hongfah Tor Buamas (18-5, 2) picked up her 3rd straight win following a loss to the exceptional Ava Knight back in 2012. Hongfah's opponent, Petchborthong Sor Rapeewan (0-1), sadly wasn't up to much here though did see out the 6 round distance. One other bout on this card saw Sangthong Sor Buamas (5-0, 5) quickly get rid of Somchai Korpol (0-1) inside a round |
