Filipino Rolly "Matsushita" Lunas (32-8-1, 19) made a triumphant return to the ring in Mexico on Wednesday night as he recorded his 32nd victory and moved a step closer to a long awaited second world title fight.
The former Japanese based Bantamweight who has been inactive since last September made his triumphant return by defeating the experienced German Meraz (44-27-1-1, 23) via an 8 round decision. The ring rust on Lunas was fairly evident but he was still a comfortable winner.
Now based in San Diego it seems likely that Lunas, ranked #6 by the WBC, will be targetting a world title fight sometime in the next 12 months, Before then however it's expected that we will see Lunas in the ring at least once more with a possible fight against Chris Avalos in October being mooted as a real posibility.
